I think the reason IT was fired was because he didnt get the job done. He had three years to get the Pacers out of the first round, and couldnt get it done.

Isiah Thomas feels like Larry Bird would of fired him no matter what
"“I think if we’d won the NBA Championship, Larry still would’ve fired me. It had nothing to do with any of that (win-loss records). The reasons they gave weren’t valid. They weren’t the reasons. I think everybody would’ve accepted it much better if he’d said, ‘I like Rick coming in to coach the team and Isiah, you’re not going to be here.’”

I agree with this entirely. Look Isiah was a good coach but his brand of rah rah coaching can only take you so far. Apparently for the Pacers it only went as far as the first round. I DO think that there should've been a bit more honesty when it came to firing Thomas tho. It was painfully evident that as soon as Rick Carlisle was available Isiah would be out of work.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I don't see why people love IT so much in the first place. He was an excellent PG in his days at Detroit but hasn't impressed me since he moved into management. He may have had some decent moves while in Toronto but didn't set them up for a continual climb into the NBA elite. As you said, he didn't prove himself in Indiana and that is sad because there was plenty of talent that went through Indy to get to the second round.....at the VERY least. It remains to be seen what will happen in NY. I think it has the potential to be good for the Knicks and I am looking forward to see how his frantic moves will shape up. Just because he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame for his play on the court doesn't mean we should hold him in the same esteem as a coach or GM.Comment

Good coach? Good coach??? Did you see any Pacers games? Being a lifelong Pacers fan, I can tell you with One trazillion, bazillion percent honesty that he was an awful coach. Substitution patterns absolutely killed the Ps. DNP-CD from our best bench players half of the time, terrible. I still have nightmares. Isaiah was out of a job, even if Larry hadn't been hired. Donnie Walsh just didn't have the balls to do it himself, but had he not hired Larry, he would have sucked it up and canned him. I will give him credit for one thing though, my hoosiers 81 championship.Comment

Donnie did have the balls to do it. BTW, I havent missed a Pacers game in years, so I have seen IT horrible coaching decisions. RC wasnt available, and as soon as he was, Donnie and Larry decided to get him. Its sad Isiah still thinks that he wasnt fired for not winning, and its even sadder he is trying to take credit for this years success (I will admit he did do a lot of work, and deserves some credit)Comment

Skinsfan, I know you are a P's fan, that is why the good coach remark was not made towards you. I think the only thing that Isaiah did was impede Croshere's growth as a player and make Tins afraid to play like he can. I think this is our year (to get out of the first round anyway)Comment
