How are the Kings about to beat the Pacers without Cousins or Gay? They've got Aaron Gray playing 30 minutes. Travis Outlaw has a +17, Marcus Thornton has 39 points. What the hell is happening?NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers

Although it was already a blow-out, they should've kept Melo on with 7 minutes left in the game. Dude probably could have cracked the 70 point mark, heck even give Kobe a run for his 81 points.Comment

Re: 1/21 - 1/27 Games Discussion Thread
I agree with all of this except that the Blazers bench also has Wright and Robinson who have both been very effective with their minutes.. McCollum just got back from injury. He's played pretty well too.
But overall they just don't have the experience or defense they really need to make a big playoff push. And that Mavs team had more depth.
They could be a surprise team though. Tough to stop on offense.
Their bench is definitely a huge difference from that Dallas team. Just as big of a difference as the defense.
Not quite, but over the course of an 82 game season, stuff like that happens.Comment

They have arguably the worst bench in the league. Statistically they are the second worst. When the Mavs won, they had arguably the best bench in the league. Statistically they were the second best.

I would assume they are only second worst statically because they don't play big minutes at all.. Portland doesn't have a starter playing under 30 minutes per game. And other than Lopez they are all 34+ per game.
The bench guys who do play have been really productive with their minutes all season long. Per 36 Robinson averages 16 and 11, Wright 13 and 6, Mo 14 and 7, and CJ 16... The only guy off the bench giving them regular minutes who isn't any good is Freeland. Even Leonard produces big with his small minutes.Comment

I know, I'm just pointing out that Robinson and Wright aren't making that big of a difference and that their bench is a definite weakness. They have one of the worst benches in the league and have minimal depth. There's overwhelming evidence to support that. They don't play a lot of minutes for a reason.Comment

I think lack of experience and veteran leaders hurts them much worse than their bench. Because I really think their bench guys will be used very sparingly, only for quick breathers.. Other than Mo, and CJ if he keeps playing well.. Maybe Leonard just for rebounds and to use his fouls..Comment

I agree with this. And maybe even more importantly than having a great starting 5 is that they have a starting 5 that has no glaring holes.. Meaning that most teams, even the best teams in the league, have role subs because their line-up lacks a big rebounder, a rim protector, a 3 point shooter, a 2nd or 3rd guy capable of creating a shot, maybe a lock down defender, or a second ball handler.
They have great rebounders, they have 4 guys easily capable of dropping 20+. They have 3 good outside shooters, they have a rim protector, 4 guys who can get themselves looks. Low post scorer, a pick a roll system, and all the wing players are good at putting the ball on the floor.
They don't have that gap in their line-up to where they need a big role filled by a bench player.
Only weakness is team defense. But none of them individually are really bad defenders, and a couple of them are actually pretty good. I think the defense improves slightly in the playoffs, they are young and quick with good size. They have the tools to play better defense, it's just about going and getting it done.Last edited by ojandpizza; 01-25-2014, 05:09 AM.Comment
