AS A BIG TIME THUNDER FAN LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ... I agree with you haha.

I may not like him since he's our biggest obstacle to winning a ring, but I have a lot of respect for Lebron. He's still the best basketball player in the world, but Durant is playing the best basketball at the moment. And KD is definitely "Most Valuable" to his team right now. We'll have to see how the rest of the season unfolds though.

      Saw this ESPN comment lol

"I'm the best scorer in the game." "When you try to come at me with a sorry defender like Batum, that's the result you're gonna get. "

All we can do is talk about who's leading at this point...we're only in January...there's a lot of season left...could be George, Durant or James by the end of the year....

Love Paul George but he's not the league MVP.

Also in response to the other poster above, I would never say Durant is more valuable to his team than LeBron, but I do believe he should be leading the MVP race at this point.

but isnt he? if durant were to go out for the year now the thunder are scratching for a 6-8 seed at best (bricks out for a couple more games, and maybe longer...and im not sold he can lead a playoff team) if lebron goes out they still have c-flops and wade

Maybe, but this doesn't really have anything to do with the MVP race...just too early to crown anyone...we see what happened on the 2nd half of the season last year...

Agreed. Here's how I look at it..Take KD off the Thunder, they don't win the title. Leave him on, they don't win the title.

Take LeBron off the Heat, we lose to Indiana. Keep him on, we have a shot to win the chip.

But the MVP has never been about the most valuable, it's about who played the best basketball. Except for 2011...that's just a fluke

Since there's no written criteria for MVP there's always going to be different arguments for different players. I have never once believed in the "you take Player X off the team and they're such and such" argument. You're basically elevating certain players because they are surrounded by weaker players. That's the flaw in the wording of the "MVP" to begin with in my opinion. You don't penalize certain players for being surrounded by more talented teammates.

Should be Most Outstanding Player. I think that would help determining the best player that particular season. I think the league should recognize this player more than a player who is helping a team overachieve. Which is what the award essentially has been at times.

Jordan should have more than 5 MVP's
LeBron should have more than 4 MVP's

But I say this every year

Because LeBron is the best scorer, rebounder, defensive player, and playmaker on his team.

Durant is the best scorer on his team.

Obviously either team is hurting without the other guy, but you can replace scoring easier than you can everything else you lose from LeBron.

Not saying anybody can replace what Durant does scoring wise, but losing him doesn't hurt all the other areas as much.

I don't like the teammates argument either, but I also have no problem with somebody other than the "best in the league" winning the award. Which is why it wouldn't bother me for Durant to get it this year and didn't bother me that Chuck and Malone "stole" a couple from Jordan.

But there actually is written criteria for the MVP award.
"given to the player who contributes the most to their teams success during the regular season"..
And since stats and team record can't fully answer that is the reason we have a large panel of voters.

Ive been wondering that for 2 years now. I haven't seen that part of his game since Toronto really. I just have no idea what happened to him

^^^ but durant is there best rebounder too, plus hes been there best play maker in westbrooks absence. I beleive lebron is actually averaging 1 less rebound than durant at the moment, and barely a whole assist. Not saying lebron isnt better. But right now, i dont think its fair to say durant only gives them scoring. Though that is his main asset to them. But like someone else said, theres no obvious citeria for who wins mvp, and everyone has different reasons for why someone should win it. Which is why i could care less who wins it, because its never technically clear who has a chance anyway.

Durant is not a better rebounder than Ibaka regardless of what the average is, just like I know LeBron is a better rebounder than Bosh though last time I looked Bosh was ahead of him. Assists are a flawed stat in an argument like this anyways because with Westbrook out 90% of everything is ran through Durant.. I said he was a better "playmaker" not better at averaging assists.

At seasons end if stats are similar and record is similar I think it goes to Durant for keeping them on top with Westbrook out and playing in the West... Even though LeBron is without Wade on and off all season long.. If for some reason the Heat finish with a really strong record against Western conference teams then I can see LeBron maybe getting it..

And that's just if everything continues on the path it's currently on.. It is only January after all.
