    All-Time Rookie starting five

    I figured I'd change these all time team threads up a bit..

    Give me, in your opinion, the best team composed of rookies only.

    For example, my all time team would be:

    Oscar Robertson: 30.5 PPG::10.1 RPG::9.7 APG
    MJ: 28.2 PPG::6.5 RPG::5.9 APG::2.4 SPG
    Elgin Baylor: 24.9 PPG::15 RPG
    Walt Bellamy: 31.6 PPG::19 RPG
    Wilt Chamberlain: 37.6 PPG:: 27 RPG

    These are all rookie season stats. Moving Walt to PF with Wilt was just personal preference. If I'm picking a PF I'd go with Tim Duncan.

    To make this more interesting, feel free to do teams by era..such as 1990-2014 all rookie team etc..

        It's tough to pass up on all the great statistical rookie seasons some of these guys have had.. If I had to pick a team based on stats I would probably go with:
        PG: Big O
        SG: Jordan
        SF: Baylor
        PF: Hayes/Stokes/Unseld
        C: Wilt/Kareem/Unseld

        My team however would be:
        PG: Magic
        SG: Jordan
        SF: Bird
        PF: Duncan
        C: David Robinson

        I think this team could actually coexist on the court. Bird was a more complete player than other choices at SF, he gave the great scoring along with rebounding or passing like the others but he also could spread the court with 41% from 3 as a rookie. Helped Boston improve from 29 wins to 61 wins after being drafted and brought home the rookie of the year award with 63 of the 66 total votes. Nearly unanimously edging out Magic.

        I chose Robinson because as a rookie he already had tremendous size and strength paired with his athleticism. He was quick up and down and a excellent shot blocker.. But I wanted him because unlike a lot of these guys he already had a jump shot and didn't rely on being next to the rim to score. If Duncan, Magic, or Bird were posting up he could spread the court and hit the mid range jumpers also face up and take most big men off the dribble with ease. 24ppg, 12rpg, and nearly 4 blocks. Raised record from 21 wins to 56 wins.

        Magic, Jordan, Duncan were more obvious choices. This 5 adds lots of offensive versatility and all can run the court well.

          My secondary choices would have been Ralph Sampson, Ewing, Shaq.

          Sampson could run the floor as well as most small forwards even at 7'4".. His stats are great for rookies, big time shot blocker, and could even step away from the basket and hit jumpers.

          I wanted to take Ewing over Robinson for how well rounded he already was a rookie. Could also hit shots away from the rim but lethal on the block as well, great size and strength for a rookie.. Decided against picking him because he didn't have an immediate impact on success, didn't rebound all that well, and was injured for part of the season..

          Shaq just because he was an athletic freak of nature. His stats are impressive enough, and his ability to beat other bigs up the court was impressive at his size. He had a draft weight of a little over 300 pounds, much bigger than any of the other players who would qualify for a selection.

          Overall I felt Robinson would need less touches than the others to be a factor, thus fitting in better for my team.

            Since everyone is going back in time. I'm going with the last 20 years.

            Jason Kidd
            Allen Iverson
            Grant Hill/LeBron James
            Chris Webber/Tim Duncan

              The old players were much more fundamentally sound having spent four years learning the trade in college. Today's players are entering the league with glaring holes in their games.

              PG: Magic Johnson
              SG: Jerry West
              SF: Michael Jordan
              PF: Jerry Lucas
              C: Bill Russell
