DCD= Dunk Contest Dead

We all witnessed what we saw,
We're all shocked and amazingly disgusted of the new format system.
No head 2 head Dunk off? I can't believe this. Who's idea was this, they should immediately be fired. Every year the Dunk Contest is slowly slowly but surely will die, they should replace it with something else. I wanted to see wall vs ross or ross vs Ben maclamore..... *saaaad face,

What are your thoughts?
Should they just shut down the Dunk Contest, or bring back the old format and bring this baby back

Relax, the dunks itself were quite impressive. I'm sure they will make changes next year due to the amount of backlash. They'll probably add an extra round as a dunk-off between the players of the winning conference.

In the meantime, here's something to satisfy your cravings until next year

I don't get the huge hate for it. Sure it wasn't insane like contests in the past were, but it still had good dunks. The format itself wasn't great.

What they need to do is have a better format. No coincidence that the contests quality has been going downhill ever since they started introducing fan voting.

Suggestion that'd be good format:
6 dunkers
2 rounds
2 dunks in 1st round(scored by the judges)
3 top dunkers move on to final round
2 dunks in the final round(scored by the judges)

And that's it. So guys will have 4 dunks prepared,and don't have to do stuff to try and get fans votes.

Some of the dunks weren't bad, we saw some decent stuff. Format was horrible... But we've known about the format for over a week, so I'm not fully understanding why you needed a whole thread for the rant. Especially since we already have an All-Star weekend thread where everybody is already discussing this.

The end of this year's dunk contest was like the end of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Ur like huh.. Is that it? Shouldn't there be more

The league really messed things up with this new format. They thought that changing the format would make it more entertaining but they were dead wrong. The thing has dunk contest lacked in past recent years has been stars. People want to see stars in the dunk contest. It's called allstar weekend right? Well this year they finally got some stars and young talent but they had to change the format...
It's a damn shame too because this was the best pool of dunkers we've seen in recent years. They had some pretty good dunks too but why did each of them only get one dunk? I'm sure everyone had at least a couple of dunks planned out. I like the idea of a freestyle round to let players warm up but this whole east vs west thing has to go.
Btw was this the shortest dunk contest of all time? As the main event of allstar Saturday it seemed to go by faster than every other event which is unacceptable.
The dunk contest isn't dead. Next year just go back to an older format and try to get some stars in there.
PS: that john wall dunk was sick!

Even had the East not swept, we still would have been looking at a maximum of just two more matchups. With a 3 minute first round and a final round setup like that, the contest was bound to be the quickest in history regardless. I commented to my brothers beforehand that the Kendrick Lamar performance was likely going to be longer than the contest itself. It was close.
