I want to see a study done on players, who underachieve during the length of their contract and then once they enter that final year, they play like every game is Game 7 of the Finals and then they dupe a GM into giving them a big money contract and then go back into underachieving again.

It's likely...I took on any and all comers <strike>when people (especially the so-called "academics" responsible for that laughable study) were doing completely irrational things like comparing the outcome of shooting a basketball to that of a coin-flip</strike> (redacted due to promised abstention from specific reference to the subject at hand) but eventually gave up. I had to realize that unless someone's (myself included) mind is mostly open going in, debate is pretty useless beyond whatever entertainment value it provides.
I'm also not very concise or equanimous when badly sleep-deprived, which unfortunately accounts for the vast majority of my participation on forums of any kind. Time was, less than a page-long comment from me was a rarity."The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism, by those who don't have it." - George Bernard ShawComment

It would be cool if they could actually test this chemically...like just how high your adrenaline spikes when your "in the zone"Comment

I believe you'd find it was dopamine, rather than adrenaline. Excess of the latter makes me feel jumpy, but being "in the zone" is quite serene. I would be surprised if there weren't already PED regimens designed to improve this type of response."The power of accurate observation is often called cynicism, by those who don't have it." - George Bernard ShawComment

Streaky, it was definitely you! No worries, all is well. The neurochemical correlates of the hot-hand effect. It would involve dopamine most definitely. Precise motor control would be the result of ideal but elevated levels of dopamine (think parkinson's shakes which are primarily the lack of dopamine) as well. Norepinephrine (noradrenaline) coupled with dopamine would account for the enhanced focus. Oh I could go on but, I should read this article first.***1971-72 ABA Roster 2K12 360***

I believe stimulant prescription drugs such as Adderal, Ritalin, or thee more recent additions Nuvigil (pharmacologically a different class, but still), or Vyvanse, I believe, are not allowed to be used by players. These drugs, in moderate doses, and perhaps doses below clinically relevant levels, could induce such a state.***1971-72 ABA Roster 2K12 360***

I've played ball after taking a pretty strong stimulant....I would definitely agree that it's an advantage...Comment

I'd say it's a combination of confidence, quantum physics/energy and ability/talent.
First you need the confidence to believe you're decent enough to shoot and make it, lol...If you make a couple your confidence rises...that's positive energy. Miss your first few, depending on who you are...you might get discouraged. Either way, it's all in your mental...
No way you can perfectly shoot the ball at the right angle/trajectory for it to go in everytime or more often than before(most players shoot EXACTLY the same everytime)...too many factors like how you shoot, where you shoot from, who's by you, how tired you are, do you jump, etc...
Scientifically...Positive engery produces positive energy. Negative energy produces negative energy. Simple science, lol...
I'm sure if they measured players brainwaves/etc during hold and cold streaks they would be different...
Some players like Kobe would probably stay the same hot or cold, lol but I believe it's physics and energy more than anythingComment

Ummm, i'm unsure what you are referring to when you type 'positive energy' in the statement "...your confidence rises...that's positive energy." Are you referring to a mental state?***1971-72 ABA Roster 2K12 360***
