    NBA losing its edge?

Every year it seems like analysts always end up saying that the nba is losing tv ratings for the finals and such. I'm trying to wonder why and I want your opinions.

Here is what I have to say. I like Michael Jordan and all, but ever since he entered the league with his high flying acrobatic moves, people have been trying to emulate that and be the "Next Jordan." Back in the 1980s and early 90s, basketball teams would be playing with a mind and not with their moves. Teams would have plays by design that would help them win the championship and players would play smart basketball that would not get them complaining to the refs after every pivotal matchup.

Nowadays, all you see are high flying acrobatic basketball players who complain after they lose that the refs messed them up or their teams are playing right or whatever. NBA isn't exciting anymore. All players do is go one-on-one and miss a last second shot because they didn't pass it to the guy standing wide open behind the arc. Players don't play with a logical mindset with fundamentals, at least I'm not noticing that. It's more of who can dunk on this guy and who can't or who can score 50 pts and who can't.

Another huge factor is the media. I hate how the NBA endorses so many shoes, commercials, etc etc etc. People are talking about the latest T-macs rather than the latest slide that the Sacramento Kings are on and why they are losing with Chris Webber. It's more about what to wear rather than how to play.

I'm not saying Michael Jordan is the reason that all this happened. I think Jordan popularized basketball and even got me into it. It's just people are trying to be something they cannot be and the NBA is hurting because of it. I don't see fundamental basketball much anymore, more like show-off basketball. The only teams that I do see play well together are the Spurs, Mavs, and Kings, and maybe the Pistons.

So what do you guys think? Is the NBA really going downhill or am the only one who sees it this way?

Riiiight MJ is the root. Never mind players can't hit a jumper, or they criticize a guy for having great fundamentals (TD), or the most dominant player in the game doesn't have a jumper, or the fact that they care more about contracts than the game. Yep, it's MJ's athleticism that did it.

TV ratings are up this year.

And I whole-heartedly disagree with most of your post.

I'm not saying it's MJ's fault, it's us, the people.

How come the east coast has all kinds of crappy teams?

I agree that TD is all fundamental and that's one huge reason why I think spurs are one of the few teams that resemble real logical basketball. Who cares if the most dominant player can hit his jumpers, but can he make his team play well together with a game of logic instead of a game of one-on-one......mr. tracy mcgrady........

Don't take this moment to take pot shots at Mac. TMac is not trying to be Jordan. Your analogies are completely off. If you aren't blaming MJ then why bring him up? MJ was fundamentally sound, so no, people aren't trying to be like him.

I never said t-mac was trying to be like Jordan, it's just that he's trying to establish himself as a leader and he's not doing a very good job. He needs to fix his team up somehow.

Like I said, it's people like us who are degrading the game in the nba.

What do you think about the media and the nba?
