    Re: Artest suspended for game 2

    i don't think he deserved the suspension but at least it will be motivation for him to play better, and the pacers can beat the celtics without him
    Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

      Eh.. this is [censored].. yes, a rule is a rule.. but I don`t think Artest was going out there w/ bad intentions.. he said he was going out there to prefent an altercation and make sure tempers didn`t flare.. so, why can`t he go out there and make sure O`Neal doesn`t do anything stupid.. it`s obvious Artest changed for the better.. the NBA just stuck it to himm though.. and it was funny that the Celtics coach, who`s name slips my mind, was pushing for the suspension, knowing his team can`t beat the Pacers.

      So, a rule is a rule.. whether you take one step or six.. therefore.. to be air and enforce the rule, Richard Jerfferson should be suspended too.. it doesn`t matter how many steps he took.. he broke the rule.

      Agreed. Jefferson should have been suspended if Artest was suspended. They both got off the bench and took steps towards the court.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

      They said that Jefferson was still in the vicinity of the bench, while Artest was clearly out of the bench area

      Ron Artest ----&gt;

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

      So ? His intention was going on the court. Look at it this way.. a criminal goes in a bank w/ the inetion of robbing, but he stops himself.. he is still seen, so he`ll be arrested for attempted robbery.. with that said, Jefferson took steps toward the court, albeit, not as many as Artest.. therefore, both should be suspended for violated the rule.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

      It doesn't really matter according to the rules. The actual rules say that any player who goes past the vicinity of the bench during an altercation will be suspended. The fact that Jefferson stayed in the area of the bench saves him from suspension. Artest on the other hand ran a couple steps onto the court. I know what your saying, both players had same intention and were on the court, but the NBA has to follow the rule book.

                  I think the official rule is that a player may not leave the vicinity of the bech and the officials said that while RJ only took 2 steps, he was still in the vicinity of the bench. On the other hand, Artest ran out quite far before he realized he shouldnt and backpedaled faster than guillerma mota after beaning piazza.
