Mike Monroe is reporting that Jackson is asking for at least 10M in the extension. Buh bye Phil.
"The Lakers in February broke off negotiations for a contract extension with Jackson. Word is that Jackson wants the club to make him the highest-paid coach in pro sports history, with an eight-figure salary. Even though Dr. Jerry Buss is one of the few owners to have turned a nice profit last season, that might be deemed too high a price to pay any coach. The fact Kobe Bryant has acknowledged he doesn't like Jackson "as a person" is a factor, as well. If the Lakers want to re-sign Bryant — and they do — assuring him Jackson won't be back on the bench might be a way to sway him.
The profit margin in the league is so thin right now — almost every team is losing millions — I just don't know how a team could justify paying a coach that kind of money," said one NBA executive. "Heck, the Lakers are one of the few teams that made a nice profit the last few years, and they don't seem to want to pay it."

You think he's gone now? With Byron Scott maybe signing to coach the Hornets, who else could step up to the plate?
