If they really wanted a defensive stopper they probably shouldn't have signed Granger.

I'm guessing Marion, Deng, Ariza are out of the question now? Or do these exceptions not count towards the cap as much as a normal signing, not sure how that works.

Long shots as defenders, Xavier Henry, Aminu, Caron Butler, Tucker, Wes Johnson, Pietrus, Dahntay Jones.

How good is Alan Anderson defensively?

Again the point you were trying to make is totally unrelated to what I said about McBob. I am willing to give McBob all the chances in the world, I think he's a solid player. All I said was he's not Boris Diaw for obvious reasons. I never said this was a bad signing or that McBob wouldn't excel with the Heat.

McRoberts isn't Boris Diaw, but Diaw also isn't McRoberts.. They're very different players, both just happen to be good passers for their positions.

Wes Johnson would be cool, if they could get Stuckey and Johnson, I figure that's the best they could ask for. Those two would be irrelevant on most teams, but on a contender could be useful.

I've been busy today so not sure if this has been talked about... Bosh/Wade have to take pay cuts or sign elsewhere for McBob and Granger to both be able to sign with Miami right?

Marion would probably be our most realistic shot. Aminu would be such a great fit if he could f#@#king shoot the ball lol.

Since the deals that Riley made were only agreed verbally, maybe there's still a chance this has minimal effects on our remaining cap space.

Because the NBA's salary cap is a soft one, the CBA allows for several important scenarios in which a team can sign players even if their payroll exceeds the cap. The exceptions are as follows:

Mid-level exception
Once a year, teams can use a mid-level exception (MLE) to sign a player to a contract for a specified maximum amount. The amount of the MLE and its duration depend on the team's cap status. The MLE was initially set at $5 million for a duration of four years for teams that are over the cap either before or after the signing, but did not pay a luxury tax in the previous season. Teams without cap room that paid tax in the previous season have an MLE that was initially set at $3 million with a three-year duration. Teams with cap room, previously ineligible for the MLE, have a new MLE, initially $2.5 million with a two-year duration. The MLE was frozen at the stated levels through the 2012–13 season, since then, it will increase by 3% per season (with the percentage based on the initial amount of the exception, and not compounded). In turn, this means that MLEs in the current 2013–14 season are:

$5.15 million for non-taxpaying teams over the cap
$3.09 million for taxpaying teams over the cap
$2.575 million for teams with cap room
Before the 2011 CBA, the MLE was equal to the average NBA salary for all teams over the cap. Teams with cap room were previously ineligible for the MLE. The Mid-Level Exception for the 2008–09 NBA season was $5.585 million. The MLE was $5.854 million for the 2009–10 NBA regular season.

Bi-annual exception
The bi-annual exception was used to sign any free agent to a contract starting at $1.672 million. Like the mid-level exception, the bi-annual exception was also split among more than one player, and was used to sign players for up to two years, with raises limited to 8% per year. This exception was referred to as the "$1 million exception" in the 1999 CBA, although it was valued at $1 million for only the first year of the agreement.

An example of the bi-annual exception was the Los Angeles Lakers' signing of Karl Malone to a contract before the 2003–04 season.

The exception was eliminated for luxury tax paying teams following the 2011 NBA lockout as many high spending teams were using this as a tool to gain top paid players.

Technically no. McBob was signed with the MLE and Granger with some sort of other exception. But to sign another free agent and to fill out the roster there is no doubt Wade and Bosh will need to take big paycuts

I read in an article that if these 2 are our only signings, then Miami can sign the Big 3 to a max contract and fill the rest of the roster with minimums'.

That was the bi annual exception which is the one they can only use every other year

He definitely looks like a 3 in summer league..

But I thought he would be all along anyways.

Though unless a trade is made I have no idea why Orlando is still waisting time trying to stock-pile power forwards.

O'Quinn, Harris, Maxiel, Andrew Nicholson, Frye, Solomon Jones, I mean how many of them do you actually need? lol and that doesn't even include any minutes Gordon spends there.
