Gentry and Griffin and some other names I've seen *Vanterpool and Lue among them* I am fine with.

VDN would be an immediately trump the Mike Brown hire as the worst in team history.

What in the world has Alvin Gentry ever done as a head coach that he keeps having his name out there... He's had a terrible track record for years since the mid 90's. If I'm a Cavs fan I am not OK with that.

The Cavs are doing it wrong by even bringing Gentry, VDN and any other re-treads in for interviews. Sends out such horrible messages

I wasn't that impressed with Gentry, but I like his style of basketball and I feel it matches the Cavs well.

I guess I should mention that Lionel Hollins was also a name that has been mentioned. I like him too.

I'm surprised Cleveland can't find a good coach. A team who's struggled since Lebron left, and has abunch of good young players, if I were a coach, I'd be wanting to go there so much because eventually these guys will develop into good/consistent NBA players and when that time comes, you'll be the coach of the team and seem like a genius turning the team around.

If he leaves I don't believe they can remain a championship level team. Best case is replace him with Melo. Or Deng and ZBo.

I'd give Gentry another shot. Don't think he's as bad as his record indicates and he's spoken highly of throughout the league from other coaches and respected players as well.

Why teams continue to give coaches like Gentry and VDN shots? To me some coaches are just maxed out. Mike Brown is Mike Brown. Have we seen Pringles make any adjustments since Phoenix nope! These guys have trends and tendencies just like players. Different team 9/10 same result.

Just curious, what makes you say he's not as bad as his record indicates. I mean, this isn't just a few stints, this is a bad track record since 1994.

I think being highly respected is one thing and being a capable head coach is another. He seems like a perfect assistant coach

Yeah, grouping Gentry into the same group as VDN/Mike Brown is a bit unfair to him.

“Deron will undergo surgery on both ankles next Tuesday,” Nets’ foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Martin O’Malley said in a released statement. “He will have a bone chip removed from his right ankle, and the left ankle will have an arthroscopic cleanout with removal of spurs from both the front and back of the ankle. Deron is expected to make a full recovery.”

What I mean is that he's a classic case of "Numbers don't lie but they don't tell the whole story" and he's shown that he can be a capable HC(at least in recent memory). He got credited with turning around Phoenix defensively when the knock among them during the D'Antoni years was that they didn't defend, which in turn resulted in them advancing to their 1st WCF.

I look it at like this. Bad Coaches(and we all can tell which Coaches are truly bad):

                        1. Very, very rarely get more than 2 chances max at Coaching.
                        2. They don't get spoken highly of from their peers AND players.
                        3. Bad Coaches don't learn from their mistakes and usually repeat them over and over.

The day this no longer is true is the day you'll see VDN, Mike D'Antoni, Mike Brown and Avery Johnson roaming the sidelines again as HCs lol.

Agree with all of your logic but Gentry himself, in my opinion, hasn't proved he is worthy of being a head coach. Your logic though, I do agree with. Gentry's defensive contributions looked great because DanPhony's was so terrible.

I wouldn't give the keys to my car, especially Cleveland's car with all that potential, to a guy like Gentry who hasn't proved anything in over 20 years as a head coach.

                              Fair enough.

I guess for a team like Cleveland specifically, I'm not sure if I would give him the job. But if I were a veteran-laden team or a playoff contending team, I'd give him a serious look.

I didn't say they where winners. You said don't group Gentry with them and he can't even match there success or lack there of . Gentry is probably a perfect assistant but as HC we seen this movie before.
