They were a 2 seed and considered "contenders" just two seasons ago with JR Smith as his "sidekick".. I don't think they need to sign Love or Durant.

That was 2 years ago and where did they go?? Nowhere. And they'll get bounced by either, the Cavs, Bulls, Heat or even Wiz every year going forward.

But hey, I guess I need to "buy" into whatever nonsense he's spitting.

To be fair, that was with JR Smith playing like a competent NBA player. If you're depending on JR not to be a knucklehead every year to be successful, then you're more ****ed up than anybody even truly realizes.

My whole point is we don't know, going forward, if they plan on depending on JR or not. We don't know what Phil's future plans are or what he's telling Melo. In two/three years this team could definitely be title contenders.. They have some massive contracts ending soon, and will probably cut ties with JR as well.

Pretty sure JR is there for another two years at least unless they find somebody to take him off their hands.

Not like it's impossible man. **** the Bulls weren't supposed to be contenders going from the squad they were in Vinny's last year and entering Thibs' first.

I don't think it's likely they will and think Phil is ****ed because I just don't see the moves that their cap space is gonna make for them. The Lakers had cap space this year and everybody still hit them with the deuces. And they've got a much better success rate in the league than the Knicks.

That's because Stern gave them Derrick Rose.

Knicks don't have any game-changers coming in. Who, that is a difference-maker, is going there?

How about we just send Carmelo to Europe with that SMU recruit so no one can have him and this thread will be peaceful. 👍

It is most definitely 100% an opinion. Just because you believe STRONGLY about it doesn't make it less of an opinion.

Wouldn't sports debate/discussion be practically dead if we all took your advice or looked at it the way you do?
What is the onus on us (you) for? You're not asked to do anything with any of this information. It's a stupid interview. He's not forcing you to bet your house on the Knicks.

I'm not looking the other way at all, I legitimately disagree with you. I believe athletes at a certain level (especially basketball players) think highly enough of their skills that they don't think they need as much as we may think around them to get a championship. I also think humans can flip flop over things others may consider completely stupid when making life decisions. So I think everything Melo has said from day one (which would be when he first said he wanted to retire a knick when he first got there from Denver) could be 100% true... including changing his mind a few 100 times.

I also think some things could be "interview talk" bc we know what happens (Tony Dungy) to guys who say unpopular things or say they committed to something before they completely know for themselves.

It's your fault that you hang onto his every word, looking to hear what would be best for you, and then hang onto that one thing as fact. This isn't an athlete thing at all... this is a human thing. I really don't get why it has you so incensed.

C'mon man. Mark cuban brought him in for 5 minutes, threw a hot pocket in the microwave, said what he had to say, gave him the hot pocket, then they both went their separate ways. They both knew the deal going in...

Dude clearly stated numerous times that it's not about the money, yet took the $120+ million dollar contract. Instead of playing one more year of his existing contract or signing a long-term, team-friendly deal, he went all in. Contradicted himself throughout the entire process. Just about everybody(except for Knicks fans of course) is crushing this dude.

Yet I'm getting backlash for just merely pointing this out.

I know it's 'fashionable' to go after me on here. I get that and I don't have a problem with it. Just don't act like I don't have a leg to stand on here with this argument.

To just say, 'well, that's just Melo', or 'that's just athletes and what they do'....I'm sorry, but that's such a vague response.

If people didn't care so much, then sports wouldn't even exist.

Most of us are hardcore fans. Were all passionate about sports...and we all get worked up over the things that transpire...
A great game, a rivalry brewing, a controversial off the court situation...those are things we all get worked up over...

Getting upset over Melos comments...is just kind of silly man...it's not that everyone is standing up or protecting Melo, it's just a silly thing to get upset about, lol. You've talked about boycotting, not watching a game or the NBA 1000 times if the Heat won etc. Should you be banned because your still here? Nah, your human, you contradict yourself all the time, **** happens. Why are you holding Melo to a different standard? Because he's an athlete?
