Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
I think Melo fits best on the Bulls because he could be their go to scorer and the team could potential be the second best team in the East. The Bulls core could definitely beat the old Wade-LeBron-Bosh one in a seven game series imo. The Bulls could offer Mirotic rights-their 2 2014 1sts-Boozer's expiring and I wouldn't say no to that deal
the thing with the Rockets is that they already have an ISO scorer and Melo's defensive weakness would be very obvious. Plus, in the playoffs you have to get past the Thunder, Grizzlies, Clippers, and Warriors every year, rather than the prehistoric Nets, the Hawks, and the Lance Stephenson lead PacersComment

I do hope that Anthony stays in the east. The west is already too loaded from top to bottom, to me, as a fan I'd like to see him join the BullsComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
And as expected...
As most suspected, New York Knicks power forward Amar’e Stoudemire has declined to exercise his early termination option and will return to the Knicks for the 2014-15 season to finish out the final year of his five-year, $100 million deal, a league source informed CSNNW.com.
“He is opting in,” said the source that spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has yet to be made. If he had chose to exercise his ETO, he would have become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
If Melo opts out this year, he can get a 5 year deal from the Knicks at max. However, he still has 1 year left at max from the Knicks. If he plays out 1 more year, he can get the 5 year max deal next season, for a total of 6 years at max, and then S&T. If he opts out that means he loses 1 max year in NY; I don't see any reason to do this unless he does not plan on resigning. The whole point of the Denver S&T was to get this extra year at max and by opting out he loses this year.
Melo should have also realized that S&T f***s the T team over. If he really wants to win he's not doing S&T. If he only wants money, he's doing S&T next season.Last edited by MattUM; 06-15-2014, 12:13 PM.Fan of:

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
He has a player option, which is why he's opting out. If his option was from the team, then he wouldn't be a FA because they would've picked that up. Even with him opting out, the Knicks still have the advantage of offering him more money and more years(other teams can only offer him 4 years max).
I mean if he were to opt in and play 1 more year in NY and then sign a new 5 year deal, then yeah under those terms it would be a 6 year max. But other than that, it's still a 5 year contract which is the most ANY team can offer a player under the current CBA.
The whole point of the Denver S&T was to get this extra year at max and by opting out he loses this year.
Still, the Rockets and Bulls have their work cut out for them. Chicago would have to amnesty starting power forward Carlos Boozer, probably trade Taj Gibson without taking anyone back then not be able to sign their 2011 draft pick from Europe, Nikola Mirotic. The Rockets would have to trade former Knick Jeremy Lin and power forward Omer Asik without taking anyone back.
“It’s doable but very hard,’’ one league source said of the Bulls’ and Rockets’ scenarios.
The Rockets could engage the Knicks in sign-and-trade talks, but it’s unlikely Jackson would agree to that unless he could lose Anthony without compensation, say, to the Lakers, who are under the cap. However, the Lakers don’t appear interested unless they get a cut rate on an Anthony-LeBron James package.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
The Knicks can offer an extra year whether he hits free agency this year, or next year. Waiting a year means risking injury so he'd rather get the deal done now. He's always maintained he wanted to be a free agent after this season. And the Denver sign and trade was more about the all around uncertainty about the new cba than it was about getting one extra year.

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
So basically you guys think there's still a possibility of him resigning with the NYK after opting out even though he forfeits 1 year at max (next season, but can still get extra year in deal) By opting out he can get the most years with NYK compared to other teams, but it would still be less than if he played one more year and got a max contract from the NYK when he's a UFA next offseason.
Summarized correctly?
Opting out = sees all possible teams and deals, gets 4 or 5 year deal now.
Not opting out = waits 1 more year to get new deal, can't consider other teams. Most # of max years if deal done next year.
S&T = gets 5 year deal and switches teams, compared to 4 year deal in FA.Fan of:

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
As far as S&T goes, he can only get 4 years so basically the only team he can get the full 5 years from in NY. If he doesn't opt out and lets this contract just run out on it's own, he can still consider other teams but it'll still be the same in that: Knicks can offer him 5 and other teams can only offer 4 years. So if he were to play it out 1 more year in NY, he's just putting every thing off by another year.
Remember, the CBA is designed to give the team that the FA to be is leaving an advantage over the others so in this case, the Knicks will always have that advantage over any team as far as offering the most money/years go. It's basically daring players to turn down that extra money/year and so far, Dwight and Josh Smith are the only ones to do so and that's mainly they either wanted to leave for a fresh start(Smith)or didn't want to be there in the 1st place and only ended up there because they screwed up getting to their first choice(Howard).#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Greg Monroe hoping and praying to get out of Detroit lol
"From what I have been told, it'll be like that (college recruiting) a little bit," Monroe said. "But the NBA has really strict rules and you can't talk about it until July 1. Different things come out about teams who are interested, but I won't know for sure until July 1 when I can actually talk to them.
"I'm hoping and praying that I will have some options. As it looks right now I will have some. But I am just preparing myself and doing the normal things that I would around this time, working out. And on July 1, I'll be with my agent and we'll go through the process together."Comment

Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread
Let's find a way to land him in Miami, Dallas, or something similar.. I think he would be a perfect fit for a team that's already really good but needing to add post scoring presence.
