The Pelicans... I just don't know man.

    Rivers didn't pan out
Trade away Nerlens Noel and a lottery pick for Jrue Holiday
Trade away a sure lottery pick for Asik
Sign Eric Gordon when he said "my heart is in Phoenix"
Trade away Robin Lopez for nothing (really not much worse than Asik if at all)

I don't know if that core is going to do much of anything.. and they could have had all these lottery picks to surround Davis instead of forcing trades like Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday...

Noel was always going to Philly. Deal was set up before the draft if things fell a certain way. I think if he went sooner we probably draft Trey Burke or MCW.

Idk I'm a believer of it still, I mean I guess I have to be at this point, went 34-48 while being devastated with injuries throughout the season. Going to get no help by being in the West though

Stone hands Asik nets a first round pick. Possibly a poorly protected lottery pick and we didn't get anything for him. Just sad.

New Orleans sent its 2015 pick to the Rockets for Omer Asik. This makes sense if you understand the Pelicans’ strategy and demands.

              Re: 2014 Off-Season Thread

I really like Jrue when healthy, as well as Evans when he finally bounced back in the 2nd half of last season.. They definitely needed a true big to keep Davis away from injuries, I would honestly much rather it be for a pick than for Ryan Anderson. Who flourishes with their current core, capable of averaging 20 ppg.. Offensive rating of 120.

Gordon wasn't a great move, but I still think he could be traded. There are always teams dumb enough to take guys like him.

I wasn't ever big on Rivers, even at the draft. I think he's been overrated since the second he signed at Duke. He didn't do anything special there aside from a game winner against UNC.. However, he still has lots of room to grow. And expectations aren't much, just to become a serviceable bench player..

Idk, they haven't handled everything perfectly. But I do really like the core they have, should be an exciting team to watch, IMO.

I get it, they need to show the fans they're trying. I just think the fans would have gotten behind them with a core of lottery picks.. I mean to have Davis, Nerlens and say Parker/Wiggins would have been awesome. Fans would surely get behind that.

OJ, this team really going to even make the playoffs? West is too tough man.

Move doesn't really thrill me. But at minimum he'll protect the basket, guard the guys too strong for AD, and grab rebounds.

Idk, I would like to think they could. But like you said the West is so tough. I just hope they can stay healthy so we can at least see where they're at. And if it's not enough for the playoffs it should be a good start to build upon.

And surrounding AD with those draft picks could also not work out cause of how much bust potential there is in the draft these days. It's a tough thing to judge right away for either scenario.

On paper right now if healthy they may compete for a playoff spot, not done making moves this offseason I would guess. Trading away Eric Gordon is probably a pipedream at this point, but if they could do that for a SF that'd be too awesome.

True, we never know how these draft picks pan out

Are you Pelican fans excited about this group? Health seems to be the major hurdle in order for them to start building cohesion and chemistry. Honestly they have no identity offensively outside of Gordon being a volume shooter

More cap wise guy than me says Pels literally have to make another move of one of our top 6 contracts to make this trade work financially.

                          So...yeah, we aren't done yet.

Hope Gordon is on the move...

Is Gordon a high commodity though? Dude's been hurt every year since college I'm pretty sure.

Eric Gordon is the greatest player in the league. No, he's the greatest human being in the world.

Someone totally should trade for him right now.

Uh...he once taught a rock to read English. In French.

If 100% healthy a starting lineup of:
                                Jrue Holliday
                                Eric Gordon
                                Tyreke Evans
                                Anthony Davis
                                Omar Asik

That's a solid lineup imo. Assuming they can resign Anthony Morrow, & with Ryan Anderson they would have 2 high scoring threats to bring off the bench as well.

Gordon will be hurt 7 seconds into the season though and so will Anderson.
