Re: Are the Lakers as good as they seem?

I dont think the Lakers are as good as the SHOULD be. With 4 future Hall of Famers in their starting lineup, they should have finished in 1st place in the Western Conference and swept through every opponent in to get to the Finals, instead, they are just as good as any team trying to win a Championship. I believe alot of their success has come from lucky shots (by lucky i mean they make shots against probable odds). They have made a handful of lucky shots over the years to win those 3 championships. Heres my example: Kobe makes that shot with 2.1 seconds left from way outside the 3 point line. I say thats a lucky shot because it was against the odds that that shot would go in. So with that lucky shot, they have made a series out of it. If he misses, then they fall to 2-0 going to 3 games at Detroit and chances are that they loose the championship. Now, with that last second shot, they put themselves in contention and only have to win 1 game to bring it back to LA. If they win this series i will blame it on Luck. But thats just IMO.

You can't use the 4 Future Hall of Famers thing in the arguement because two of those Hall of Famers should be retired. Joe Dumars could put himself on the Pistons roster as a Future Hall of Famer, but he retired before he became a bitter old crybaby like Payton or a shell of his former self like Malone. I'm sorry...those two players are liabilities right now. Period.

Give them one more season together, without the injury bug they had this year, and let them play that fast tempo kind of game like they did in the beginning of the year.

As for this season, they did not meet my expectations, but I feel that the injuries and off-court issues had a lot to do with it. The Lakers core has barely played half of a season together and all they media crap they've been getting takes a toll on them too. This Kobe-Shaq fued is not a fued. Shawnee O'neal (Shaq's wife) said it best: They are like brothers, and like all brothers they have arguments, but they still have that brotherly love between them.

Honestly, all teams had injuries this year. They were just inconsistent at times. Now Shaq's dad said they just work together, so who do you believe?

I think the Lakers could actually be better than they are. They don't play up to their potential and get very lazy. I think the main reason for this is Shaq. He is the highest paid player on the team, and he is their leader. But he is also lazy, fat, and doesn't play during the regular season. That flows onto the rest of the team.

Just like how the Kings won't win with CWebb as their leader. He just can't get it done when it counts. Teams take on the identity of not only their coach, but of their best player.

But to me, the Lakers are the best team of this decade, so far. They have proven it time and time again, that when it matters, they can take care of business. It's just getting there that seems to be half-assed. Damn that Shaq.
