To get a flagrant foul you have to not be playing the ball, by putting Clockwork in a headlock, he was not playing the ball. Thus a flagrant foul should've been called.

That's my point. If the rule is that any foul not playing the ball is a flagrant, then you have to realize all the "flagrant" fouls Shaq receives. The minute Shaq is under the basket, teams will jump on his head and bearhug him as he goes up.

    Very true.

Flagrants are intent to hurt another player. The intensity of such an act determines if it is flagrant 1 or flagrant 2.

Only Piston fans seem to think that was flagrant.

Shaq has never been a dirty player like that, he was only trying to break his fall. And obviously the foul looked harsh because Shaq is freakin 350 pounds!

You can't be serious. Because he is over 350 pounds he gets away with alot of stuff, and because the refs love L.A. so much he rarely gets called for anything or fouls out.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Re: I\"m a Laker fan and I have to admit

So what we've come to agree is...
Shaq should not be called for fouls, since he is overweight.
If that was the instance, then Rosie O'Donnell's TV show shouldn't have been cancelled.

Shaq gets away with way too much, and the refs need to buckle down on it. Traveling, offensive fouls, and free punches at opponents.

The refs are costing the Pistons some valuable plays... but the Pistons still should be able to beat the Lakers, even with a slight disadvantage. I've never believed in refs costing teams a game, unless a team has played perfect, or a ref gets extremely out of line...

Plus, the officiating hasn't been that bad thus far...

The only call I didn't like was the call on Ben to give shaq a 3 pt play with 35 sec left. As soon as it happened I thought the Lakers were gonna tie it. Ben stood there with his arms straight up like he should. No foul should have been called. Everyone in the detroit newspapers or on web sites were saying Ben made a mistake. He did not, it was a bad call but thats life.

the problem was he raised his hands...if your not gonna do nothing, why act like your involved in the play...by raising his hand...the ref hand to think that he ws going for some block or steal motion, ref thought he fouled him, so he got whistled

watching the replay from tv...it hards to tell...but one from a baseline cam obviously showed he didnt touch him

You're right, its probably just Ben's instinct, espically since he didnt get the rebound, it just seemed like a cheap call that was made considering the lead. Almost like the refs thought it was over and wanted to give LA a break. Just my 2c
