Poor Fits Will Be The Reason For The Piston's Struggles

    https://docs.google.com/a/umich.edu/...8IZy22SBF8/pub

Here is a definitional argument I wrote for my English course at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In it, I explain why Pistons fans should not have too high expectations for the Pistons right now because there are still players on the roster who do not fit well with what Van Gundy is trying to accomplish -- a successful system that allows Drummond to flourish.

Check it out if you have 5-10 minutes. I would love to hear your opinions on the subject.

I'd be interested in reading it but when I click on the link, it says, "the file you have requested does not exist".

Looking at the Pistons from the outside, they do have talent on their roster but you might be right about them not blending together. I do think that Monroe and Drummond could work together but the two odd pieces within the Pistons are Jennings and Josh Smith.

      Sorry about that. Fixed.

I do not know if the Pistons have to replicate a 4-out-1-in system to succeed. But I do agree that poor fits abound with this franchise at the moment. I do not have a confident solution as to what to do with the Monroe-Smith-Drummond trio. Monroe's on his way to being a free agent, Smith makes poor decisions and plays outside of himself, and Drummond still has virtually no game with his back to the basket. I don't think they can go back to running Smith at the three, so someone's going to have to accept bench time to make all this have a chance of working (it was Monroe by default so far, due to his suspension).

The Pistons will not be able to mimic Orlando because players just aren't good enough. Dwight Howard actually had more of a post game than Andre Drummond does now. And the likes of Hedo Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis were both very talented beyond just knocking down spot up jumpers (on top of both being tall for their roles).

If I were the coach of the Pistons, I would be nearly flummoxed as to how to run this squad at the moment. Even the point guard position is a problem. Jennings is erratic very frequently, but his peak skill eclipses the very steady D.J. Augustin. It's tough to tell who should play and how they should play at this point.
