Re: The real Jerry West?
Nothing really surprising about this article. You would be surprised how many people at the top really dont do half of what they are credited for. They have intern/lawyers/mid-level people who do all the research, and the top guy takes all the credit.
Nothing new
I love the part about overpaying for draft picks, which most NBA fans know is impossible due to the rookie salary scale -

The rookie salary scale is fairly recent. Chris Webber's rookie contract was a 15-year, 74 million dollar deal. Glenn Robinson's rookie contract was 68 million over 10 years. Shaq's was 41 mill over 7 years.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

That article is complete BS. Ok so West was so pressured by Sharman and Chick Hearn(say whatI mean I know Chick was much more than a radio guy but still...) and somehow took Magic anyway. Bad GM! BAD BAD!!!
And let's be real...the only person in the league that could get the Grizz into the playoffs is Jerry West. And that's exactly what he did. He's a friggin' genius.Comment

And he did it all with hiring a coach, Hubie Brown.
Give West credit for being able to steal key players from other teams, too. Shaq and Mike Miller from Orlando, Kobe from Charlotte, Earl Watson from Seattle and now Brian Cardinal from Golden State.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: The real Jerry West?
Wow. After reading the line 'As a longtime friend of Jackson's, I felt obliged to offer West a small warning: "Phil's teams always start off slowly while they're learning the triangle,"' that is officially the least credible writing I have seen in a looooooong time. I don't think Jerry West is a god, but I do know he had final say on a ton of good decisions and I know I don't trust that article. Whatever.Comment
