Re: 12/2 - 12/8 Games Discussion Thread
Aside from being there for the stuff Raptors having for Nelson Mandela, Tracy McGrady will also be honored for the Raptors 20th anniversary.......That should go well.
People might still be mad a VC(though I still think it's stupid to be mad at him), they're still mad at Bosh, but really...if there's any player to be mad about leaving the Raptors it's McGrady. Even he admitted it himself how much he regrets that decision. And Kobe said how Raptors probably would've been championship contending team had McGrady stayed.
And not only did he leave, but Raptors got next to nothing for him! How did they seriously let a 20 year old future star player go, and all they got was 1 first round pick which they just gave away a year later? Though it seems like James Harden was also in similar position as McGrady. Being bench guy(and even some of their stats were fairly similar while being a bench player),lasting there just 3 years before going somewhere else, becoming a starter and a star player.
Still wish Raptors would've just had McGrady and VC play together in starting lineup. What a lineup that would've been. Davis at C,Oakley at PF,VC at SF,McGrady at SG and Williams at PG....Like Kobe said, could've been championship contending team.Last edited by Majingir; 12-05-2014, 03:48 PM.Comment

Re: 12/2 - 12/8 Games Discussion Thread
I've been watching basketball for 20 years and I don't think Ray Allen's jumpshot is pretty, at all. It's not pleasing to the eye, at all.
Is it technically a correct jumper? Probably. I'm not an expert. All I know is what I see, and there are a bunch of guys I would rather see jumpshots from than Ray Allen.
If you want a pretty jumpshot, try Vince Carter the past few years, or in his Nets days. Now that was a sweet looking shot. John Salmons also had a smooth-looking midrange J. Paul Pierce's was nice in his younger years.
I like watching jumpshots with smoothness and finesse. Not that super quick release of Ray Allen's.
And Marion's isn't that bad at all. It's a little hunched over or whatever, but why is that considered ugly? I knew someone years ago when I was playing youth league basketball who shot like that in real life and no one ever called it ugly, or had any problem with it.Comment

Reggie Miller's shot was "different", Marion's is ugly.
I'm not sure what you're looking for but I've coached/taught basketball for about 20 years and his shot is about as ugly as an "effective" shot can get (I say that bc there are worse, but they usually don't go in with any consistency).I've been watching basketball for 20 years and I don't think Ray Allen's jumpshot is pretty, at all. It's not pleasing to the eye, at all.

A lot of kids shoot with the ball in front of their face and on the way up because they don't have the strength to get the ball in proper position. Many don't grow out of the bad habits. There are reasons shooters should do certain things like release at the top of their jump, have their elbow under the ball, etc, etc. Breaking any of the "technically correct" rules reduces the chance of consistent success. Marion breaks a ton of them.
I'm sure many here can agree, when I watch someone shoot with perfect form, I can almost see the ball going through the net before it completely leaves their hands... that's a sight of beauty. Whenever Marion shoots, I'm amazed it goes in.Comment

Whatever word you want to use for it, Marion's "jumper" is just a sore sight. From start to finish, Guys like Kevin Martin have odd wind ups, but the end of their shots all generally look the same at release. Marion's just looks bad all the way through...look at his release above...just...no, lol...All that said, it's worked for him throughout his career...so hey...it is what it is...gotta call a spade a spade though...Comment

It's not "a spade is a spade". I happen to think Marion's shot is unique, not ugly.
It's all subjective anyway. I happen to find beauty in lots of different things. I also like things that are unique, creative, and "outside of the box".
And I highly disagree that a jumper like Ray Allen is a sight of beauty simply because it's technically correct. I prefer jumpshots to have character, finesse, smoothness, style, etc., over being technically correct.
A jumpshot like Ray Allen's is not only not pretty to me, it's boring as heck. The way he jumps straight up, it's odd looking. It's like a quick flick release with no style at all.
I used to love Iverson's 'J' and I patterned my own shot after it a bit. It's far from technically correct but I loved watching him take it. Because of that, people have commented on my jumper over the years saying good things about it.
I'm not in love with Marion's form, but it's not ugly to me. It's just different.Comment

Re: 12/2 - 12/8 Games Discussion Thread
Pretty much me this year watching Miami. We'll make the Playoffs easily but we're missing a third player. We don't even need a LeBron, just a third guy to give us 16 or so a night. Wade and Bosh looked great last night, at this point if it came down to it we'd be the 4th best team in the East behind Cleveland, Chicago and Toronto. (not in that order) I think we can beat any of those teams on a given night, and in a series we'd have the best chance to beat Toronto I feel. But we're talking about Miami, lol. Unless you're saying Miami is better than the 3 you mentioned so not even worth bringing up.
So what are you basing your analysis of every other team on? The Heat are a completely different team without LeBron so all you can go by is their early regular season start. The Cavs were awful last year so your playoff philosophy doesn't apply with them. Chicago lost to the Wizards last year in the playoffs and Toronto was a "laughing stock" before last year too.
Doesn't seem like you should respecting any of these teams if that's how you're looking at it.
This was my original post. I then said I don't put much weight into the Wizards beating Miami a few nights earlier on our worst shooting night. Last year they would've been a first round exit if it wasn't for Rose being hurt.
Nowhere in there does that disrespect the Wizards? And even what I said later about baby steps applies.. pretty sure theres an exception to gaining the best player on the planet and a top PF so Cleveland gets a pass to that "rule". Chicago also got better and were an already good team when healthy. Miami lost LeBron but even before him we were a Playoff team.
Toronto falls into the same category, first round exit last year and so far they're the best team in the East by the numbers. Come playoff time regardless of seeding my top 4 is going to be Cleveland, Chicago, Miami and Toronto.
Also, I like all these teams in the East. It's not like I have something against Washington or am high on Toronto.Last edited by BringTheHeat; 12-05-2014, 08:00 PM."To the last minute, to the last second, to the last man, we fight"Comment

Great first half my the Wizards..that's why I like John Wall, he can impact the game without scoring..haven't taken a shot tonight, but still balling on defense and his assist, not even looking for his shot...and everything is flowing..unlike certain PGs who has to score to impact the gameWashington Redskins
