This shouldn't even be an issue. If those guys would go the extra mile and practice their free throws - and I mean with dedication, it's a vital part of the game! - there wouldn't be any controversy about hack-a-shaq.

Do people really think guys like Jordan and Drummund don't practice free throws? This is like saying Ozzie Smith never practiced hitting. Sometimes you're just not good at something. Every skill can't be willed into existence.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 06-10-2015, 03:57 PM.NFL - Vikings

That doesn't mean you change the rules because they're bad at something.Comment

Right. So change a rule completely for two players on two teams (marquee or not). So basically if it was a guy on the Timberwolves or on the Sixers it'd be fine then?Comment

Re: Let's Talk About The "Hack-a-Shaq" Strategy
It's simple. I want to watch basketball when I watch a basketball game. This strategy is against the spirit of the sport. Free throws exist as a penalty to keep defenders from turning the sport into rugby. This strategy is a loophole in the system in that a coach can instruct his team to foul players using non-basketball actions to stop the game and highlight a weakness. Free throws are the only weakness you can stop a game and highlight. There's no way to stop a game and make Tristan Thompson dribble, there's no way to stop a game and make JJ Redick rebound.
I don't know why people think this is bigger than it is. It's not about coddling two players, it's not about teaching lessons to youth basketball, it's not some vendetta against hard work. It's simply about wanting the game to be as free flowing as possible, the way it was originally intended to be.
Why do people take this potential rule change so personal? You can't tell me you enjoy watching this strategy deployed. I refuse to believe.NFL - Vikings
