No big names have taken less money to come to the Knicks and no one has chosen the Knicks when they had an equal offer from another team.
I mean I guess that is one way to look at it.

It seems like guys always go where they can get the most money, and then location is second. Were the Knicks the only ones to offer Amare a max that year? After 2010 I wouldn't believe so but it is hard to remember arbitrary stuff like that.

I may be wrong but weren't the Knicks the only team to fully guarantee his contract while Phoenix didn't want to do that because of his injury issues?

Yup, we were the only team to offer him 5 years/$100M.

I believe Phoenix was the only other serious suitor and they offered 4 years/$80M so it basically came down to us willing to give him a fifth year. As Pack mentioned above, I can't remember if Phoenix offered 5th year team option but we were the only team to offer a guaranteed five years.

Got ya. Then I stand corrected lol

Also to clarify, I say Melo, not because of his recent deal but because of him basically forcing his way to New York while he was Denver. But I guess the argument could also be made that he did that because of his wife and all that other BS, and not because he actually wanted to play for the Knicks, but you catch my drift lol

You won't find many players that have taken less money to go anywhere.

Honestly though, this task is kind of pointless with NBA players bc we have a lot of resigning and then trading of players, and players making it clear they want out so teams trade them before it happens. The data of who went where via FA is very skewed in the NBA.

              Re: 2015 Offseason Thread

I think the idea the Knicks can't lure anybody gets overplayed. We just haven't had many opportunities to try because of how mismanaged we are.

Melo forced his way here the first time around. Tyson Chandler we weren't even going to go after, but he let the Knicks know he wanted to come here, so we wasted the amnesty on Billups to get him. And then once we got him and used up all our cap space, we managed to get a bunch of veterans on cheap deals over the next 2 years, most who picked the Knicks over at least one other good option.

Outside of 2010 when we missed out on the big 3, most of the other guys who used us as a bargaining chip we weren't even making competitive offers to because we couldn't

So why even mention Melo when we all know LaLa was the real free agent\player?

                  Huh? I said why.

Saying that some people could argue that way and say that he didn't choose.

                    Nah its a joke

Kinda like how James Worthy told Melo to his face "we don't need Melo, we just did his wife, she's way more popular than he is" when trying to recruit him

What kind of money Danny Green is gonna command this summer ?

                            I'd imagine around the MLE

Not sure how he'll fit outside of the Spurs offense but defensively he should be okay.

He could be an ideal replacement for Dunleavy & the Bulls.

I'd have thought more than that.

Well I certainly wouldn't pay him more lol

As a rough comparison, Ariza is around $8 million per year and I consider him the more complete player than Green.

Had he been on fire during the postseason then I'd say his value probably bumps around the $7-8 million mark which I think is going to happen to DeMarre Carroll.
