They have to get the figures in by June 30th for the year which is a ton of accounting. Its a miracle they get it done that fast.

This is yet another ESPN/national media discussion to justify why they all have jobs really. People don't seem to understand the two primary reasons for the period. Like you said, they have to get the figures in so they can determine the cap for the following year and the second reason was because teams and players were already going through back channels and tampering before the July 1st date and the official negotiating date when they got the numbers anyway so they allowed them to officially talk with this moratorium period.

Just start FA later with heavy fines for whoever breaks them and get the cap calculations. Basically team could only begin to talk with FA's tomorrow with also having the ability to sign them on the spot. This isn't rocket science.

Again, that's what they were doing before they instituted the moratorium period. Didn't stop teams from tampering and so here we are. This doesn't need some grand reworking.

Changed my stance on DJ a bit (see what I did there?). He handled this terribly. While I don't hold his decision for staying in LA against him, he should have called Mark Cuban and told him. I'm sure LAC crew did everything and anything they could to keep him off the phone though. This whole thing is crazy. When I said people will forget about this, I had no idea it was going to turn into the ****ing twitter soap opera that it did. Entertaining as hell but man this was not a good look for DJ.

Then go back to it and instill some discipline. Silver is the so called fixer, get it done. Millions in fines and taking away 1st's and 2nd's should do it. Make an example out of someone.
