It's just especially stupid for these guys because of how much money they are putting at risk. Yeah it's stupid to risk your 20,000 dollar a year job over weed, but it's a lot more stupid in my eyes to wind up on a road that can take your income from 5 to 16 or 17 million dollars a year to a doughnut or that $20,000 job.
Sympathy and understanding are two different things though.

A LOT of NBA players smoke weed... openly, freely, and with the knowledge that many before them had 10 year careers smoking as much as they wanted. That fear that Joe the postal worker may have of getting a random test every other month just doesn't exist. It's understandable how somebody can slip up (unless you get hit multiple times like some of these NFL guys... gotta learn at some point).

Doesn't make it any less stupid, but it doesn't surprise me at all.

Not a bad move for the Warriors at all.

Yeah, Thompson is a perfect fit for the Warriors. Veteran with a nice well-rounded game.

I'm telling you, this dude simply doesn't care anymore. He's burned out.

Don't count Derrick Rose among the long list of stars committed to the USA Basketball minicamp in Las Vegas later this month just yet. While it's been expected that Rose will attend the three-day summit - described by managing director Jerry Colangelo as more "reunion" than grueling tryout - he remains undecided, ESPN's Nick Friedell reports. The Chicago Bulls superstar is weighing the opportunity to play for the U.S. in the 2016 Olympics against additional rest ahead of the 2015-16 season. Rose was set to play for the gold medal-winning 2012 squad before tearing his ACL in the 2012 playoffs, and he used the 2014 FIBA World Cup as a means of shaking off the rust from subsequent injuries ahead of last season. With a torn ACL and a twice-torn meniscus on his medical file, plus myriad smaller maladies in recent years, Rose choosing to avoid additional taxation on his body would be completely justified. But Colangelo has been adamant that attendance at the Aug. 11-13 minicamp is mandatory to be considered for the next Olympic squad.Rose was able to return from his latest meniscus tear late last season and held up through the playoffs. He hasn't quite gotten back to the MVP version of himself - averaging 17.7 points and 4.9 assists in 51 games last season, while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor and 28 percent from long range - but entering next season well-rested and fully healthy would probably be a nice step toward that end.

Three skipped all over this, as well as the paragraph above it in the link, as well as none of this coming out the mouth of Derrick.

I understand you hate the guy, but if I was a fan of the Bulls I'd be wanting an important piece to my team, resting in the summer and preparing for the next season. Not out risking another injury, but maybe that's just me being crazy.

Everything with this guy is like, 'hmmmm, we'll see if I'm up to it'.

He's just so damn lethargic. I mean, playing basketball is what you do. He acts like he's doing everyone a favor by playing.

Don't forget...this is the same guy in 2013 who was healthy and decided not to play. Hilarious how that continuously goes unnoticed in here.

Let me guess: Rose isn't doing the USA summer basketball thing and TK thinks that's a window into his flakey soul?

If I was a guy who had barely any cartilage left I wouldn't wanna compete for my country when we're in an era where the U.S. are probably further ahead of anybody else than they've ever been with the talent in their roster, and to top it all off he's not even the best point guard available, far from it.

But the guy is a multiple time all star and an MVP and if he wants to get close to that level again he needs to play as little as possible outside of his 82 games + playoffs. If he decides he wants to play for the U.S. it's dumb but it's his decision.
