Big shocker. TWolves gonna buy out Anthony Bennett.

Sure, he shouldn't have been a 1st overall pick, but that's not his fault. His draft spot put so much pressure on him. If he was drafted 5th or something, his career even up to this point would prob be so much diff.

I'm sure someone is gonna pick him up real soon after his buyout. But still don't get buyout reason. He's only under contract for this upcoming season at 5.8M. After that, it's just a team option. He's only entering his 3rd season, TWolves seriously done with him already after just 1 season in Minny? Sure, he's not gonna be a 1st overall player in his career, but anyone who does pick him up is gonna get him for nothing, or maybe since he has to clear waivers first, we could see some team come in and offer a 2nd or something for him.

Cavs should just snag him back up

No way he goes to Cavs. If he even happens to pass waiver wire(which Cavs I think are 29th on),do they even have enough money either way to sign him?

He may go for the minimum somewhere. He needs to rehab his value more than get paid immediately. Cavs aren't the place for that, though.

Makes a lot of sense for the Raptors to go after him.

              Just because he's Canadian?

Wouldn't be the first time a #1 overall pick ended up being completely worthless. If he can contribute at all a team will give him a chance, but if he fails it's not because people will expect too much of him at this point.

He needs a place where he can get some minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if he initially approached the front office about a buyout. He's big and can shoot the ball, that's about the best you can say about him for now. Fortunately for him those traits are highly coveted in this league.

I'd like the Knicks to pick him up but I'm not sure how the waiver system works in the NBA. Is it like baseball where the team that claims him with the worse record wins the claim? Or is he pretty much just a free agent?

They wouldn't use it on him, but I think they have a 10.5mil trade exception.

The Canadian thing is part of reason raptors fans want him,but its more of a factor in his signing decision. People wanting to go after him cause there's better shot of signing him cause his family lives here.

He's only 22. Lots of guys don't even have good seasons till mid 20s. Lets face it,if he was taken later in draft, his numbers wont seem so bad,and might have even been given dleague time instead of thrown into nba with 1st overall expectation.

If Raptors sign him,i think him in dleague for now would be good. Get time to properly develop, and with their dleague team close to toronto, his family can still go to games, which would be a positive thing mentally for a player in his position.

Why a buyout though, why not just trade him? I highly doubt there a zero teams that wouldn't give them at least a 2nd rounder.

Apparently nobody did want to trade for him. Maybe it's cause of the 5.8M contract. But still..surprised nobody would even give up a 2nd round pick or even just cash considerations or something random like that for him.

Portland could be a team interested in him(cause of having his Team Canada coach Jay Triano part of their staff). Though I think that coach is real bad. Biasedly obviously I'd want Raptors to get him. But really it's anyones guess where he goes now.

There are only two teams still under the cap (Portland and Philadelphia) that could absorb that contract without giving anything up. Why bother when you know there's no market for him and you could get him for substantially less after a buyout. I'm sure both those teams will want to hang onto that cap space for the trade deadline to take on bad contracts and get assets/draft picks for doing so.

MWP likely signing one year deal with the lakers today per woj. He's been training and working with the rookies all summer. Tbh I don't think he's got anything left in the tank, he was trash his last two years in the NBA.

Tristan Thompson signing 3 year,53M deal with Cavs.

I thought he was going for the max?
