It's bad process, and we're not a rebuilding team that can take too many chances on guys.

Of course, I still hope he plays up to his potential and becomes a solid role player, but people need to understand the situation.
It's a minimum contract to fill out your roster used on a young player with potential at your weakest position. It's a genuinely good move. What, they're not going to be able to sign Dwight Buycks now? You guys are seriously overreacting. There's nothing negative about this.

It's not an argument about the move, it's an argument about the thinking behind the move. It's not like stupid ideas should be accepted just because they have minimal impact.

I just disagree that it's a stupid move. I think if the Raptors were located in Mississippi and they made this move it'd be solid. If they were *just* signing him cause he's Canadian they'd sign Joel Anthony. They wouldn't make this move if he didn't have the little bit of positives he does. If anything it's better for them because he may feel more comfortable than he did in other locations, which is a big deal since most can agree a lack of confidence has been an effect on his lack of success.

Again, it isn't. He's young and he does have certain potential to an extent. But if you saw Hasheem Thabbeet get cut instead, I don't think the Raptors would be racing to sign him. It's the thinking, and I think it is because he's Canadian.

To your Joel Anthony, I counter Jamaal Magloire, who's still on the coaching staff / payroll in some way.

Same as a bunch of other vets on coaching staffs around the league lol. But we just disagree. Toronto was a logical spot for him just based on their roster is how I see it. We just disagree on how big of a factor the Canadian thing is. I get your point though.

Huh? Is it something on television?

I'm in agreement with 702 and Maj, the Raptors are just being prudent taking a flier on Anthony Bennett. He still has potential as a undersized "stretch" 4 especially in a league that continues to value versatility and athleticism. Playing in the D-League, which I believe he refused to do in Cleveland or Minnesota, could also help him build his confidence back up against lesser competition.

He has the tools to at least be productive in the NBA. We've seen plenty of players of a similar size (and smaller) flourish at the PF position. This is likely his "last chance" at becoming a solid NBA player so he needs to really put in the work and become more disciplined.

ThreeKing is rolling over in his grave right now if he saw Bulls media day. Derrick just isn't that bright though man. Even I was cringing listening to him today.

And I’m doing this all for my son. Like I said, I’m thinking about his future. Even though we’re alright, we’re comfortable, when you talk about that x-amount of dollars, I think it raises everyone’s eyebrows, so there’s nothing wrong with being over-prepared.’’
