I honestly think all this stuff about Wade leaving (interest in lakers, Dad wearing Cavs shirt) is just Wade trying to light a fire under Riley's *** to pay him more. I highly doubt Wade leaves.

It's possible, just Wade would be taking a massive paycut in every instance pretty much.

He'd be looking at getting part of or the full mid level exception from the Cavs if Bron re-signs but Love and JR walk. The final numbers won't be available until the moratorium period is over in July, but just based off last year's numbers the full mid level is a four year deal with 4.5 percent raises of the $5.305 million first year salary.

If Love re-signs they have the tax payer's exception which is $3.278 million for three years with 4.5 percent raises.

That's an entire Grand Canyon between the 15 million that Wade is apparently looking for from Miami. I'd be intrigued to see how he explains bailing from Miami for not getting paid only to take a cut this massive.

Also I forgot to take into account that Lebron has an opt out in his contract as well. So they can do the same they did in Miami. Where both he and Wade take pay cuts.

Honestly though, I don't think I even want Wade to come here. I mean, he's a great player, but it wouldn't feel as good if we won a championship with a 2K-esque roster. Would just feel weird. I would rather win through improvements with the draft, Haywood's contract, and maybe a few vet min free agent signings.
Beggars shouldn't be choosers, but adding Wade would feel just a bit too arcadey imo.

It doesn't matter. They're gonna be so far over the cap that even if LeBron takes a pay cut (which he was adamant he'll never take less than the max ever again), they'd still be over the cap.

As a Lakers fan I would never trade the 2nd pick for Love. If he really wanted to be here he'd just opt out and come as a free agent.

Why would anyone think adding Wade would make them a championship contender? At this stage of his career?

Cleveland's a contender without him and he's still one of the best SGs in the NBA.

What does he provide the Cavs besides being another very good player that you can't count on to be healthy? You can't keep on banking on guys like Kyrie and Wade to be healthy all the time. Hell, him not being anywhere near the same player he was, is the reason why Lebron left Miami in the first place.

For about half a season. I hate to see him not be able to be there though

Between the success/longevity of San Antonio and now Golden State's success with monitoring player minutes, you'd have to imagine more teams will start doing this. Bron played his lowest MPG this season at 36 MPG but I think it should be even lower now, maybe 33-34 MPG. If Cleveland landed Wade they could play him 27-30 MPG and sit him out in back to backs. You need depth to pull these lower MPG off with your big stars though, so that will be Cleveland's challenge (and star health).

So I'm not 100% sure how this whole cap/salary thing works..

But just to clarify, the only reason the Cavs can afford keeping LeBron and Love is because they are allowed to go over since both players are already part of the roster.. Isn't that how it works?

So technically, assuming LeBron and Love both opt out, if Love leaves for another team and LeBron hasn't signed yet wouldn't they have enough cap room to sign another top level player? And then LeBron simply just sign his new contract afterwards? Or does it not work like that..
