Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 2nd Round Discussion Thread
Thanks.
ZBo is their biggest contributor down low. Half of Gasols offense comes from outside the paint. So that definitely took away their strength.
Even saw that Allen took 3 triples. The Grizzlies as a whole took 18 which is the highest for any game they've had this postseason.
So they just made them a jumpshooting team from the looks of it. Basically saying, "Lets see if you can outshoot us." Love it!
My guess is that it would be better to have Bogut hovering around to defend the paint and crash the boards.
Gasol stays away from the rim for a lot of the Grizzlies offense. He is the primary screener on the pick n rolls, sets up at the top of the key on other sets, and runs high low offense with Randolph.
That would essentially mitigate Bogut's, or any centers effectiveness on the floor as they spend the majority of the time away from the rim while guarding Gasol.
Putting Green on Gasol is a good move, because it would allow Green to be the primary pick n roll defender where he can cause problems because he is way quicker defensively. And with Gasol not hammering them downlow, the size difference isn't a big factor.
Having Bogut on Allen allows Bogut to clog the paint because Allen is not scoring unless he gets a layup. So there is no need to be anywhere close to him on the perimeter. So with Bogut free, he can help anytime the ball is given to ZBo or Gasol down low and he can always be in good position for rebounding and preventing second chance points.
He's also pretty much playing free safety as he can just sit on anyone that drives or cuts and be in good position to protect the rim.
Very smart move IMO.Comment

You got to be willing to take chances. I think too many times Klay was put in a help defender role instead of covering their best ball handler (which he is better at).Last edited by jeebs9; 05-12-2015, 12:24 PM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 2nd Round Discussion Thread
A few observations from last night's Dubs vs. Mem.
1. Kerr and coaching staff took Allen completely out of the game (16mins.) by putting a big on him, daring him to shoot and doubling the bigs off Allen.
2. The Warriors were getting more calls from the refs.
3. The Warriors lost the TO and the rebound battle but still managed to win. Wow!
4. Courtney Lee held to 0 3-pointers made. While Iggy went 3-5!
5. Much better job on defending the blocks. Zebo was -21 in the +/- category and Gasol went 7-19!
Keys to next game:
1. Dubs need to continue the improved shooting from downtown. At least 30%.
2. Memphis needs to use J. Green more and pray he delivers. T. Allen will not cut it and the Dubs will continue to dare him to shoot.
3. Shaun Livingston needs to show up in this series. Mid-range post will not work, he needs to get his butt on the block.
4. I still see too many careless passes from the Dubs they need to clean up the 21 turnovers which is more than (20 and 13) they had in the two losses.Last edited by RunN1st; 05-12-2015, 12:37 PM."The older I get, the faster I was!"

First off no talks about the refs not giving them calls smh... Makes you sound really sore.
Using plus/minus for one player has shown it doesn't work. it's better for seeing how line ups work together.
Shaun Livingston will not show up.
Everything else I guess I agreed one hahaHands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Unless I misunderstood him, he's a Warriors fan who feels his team got my favorable whistles...that's the opposite of sore, lol
The Warriors were swarming though, the Grizz could hardly even post them...Comment

Yes, sir. We were getting a lot of no calls and love on some borderline foul calls on the Griz."The older I get, the faster I was!"

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 2nd Round Discussion Thread
Beyond the adjustment with Bogut GSW just had much more defensive intensity last night compared to Games 2 & 3. Maybe that adjustment helped spark it. And as it usually goes in the NBA playoffs, the team that needs a win that night tends to play harder. Memphis also missed several good looks but that tends to happen when your defense is playing harder and doesn't allow the offense to get as comfortable.
The scary thing about GSW is that they still didn't play great last night (21 turnovers) and still dominated the game.
Side note but Gasol is so frustrating to watch at times. 7'1 260 lb and he's shooting 41% from the floor in the playoffs over the past two seasons."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Western Conference Playoffs - 2nd Round Discussion Thread
You already got a good explanation by the other posters in here, I just wanted to add on a little bit. You wanna keep Klay glued to Conley as much as possible, and you don't want Harrison or Steph to be your primary help in this situation.
Harrison is a fantastic 1 on 1 defender, but often has lapses on when he should be helping. His help will often come late or not at all, so it makes sense to just have him focus on fronting and denying Zbo post position. He's also really strong, so he can't be bullied into a bad position too easily.
Curry is good at providing help, but tends to over help at times and he doesn't have the length to really bother Marc or Zach.
Adjustments like these are why I love the playoffs.
