NBA Merchandising?
I was chatting with some guys at work and an interesting question was raised. Does anyone know how the royalites are split from the sales of jerseys and other merchandise. Do the superstars receive any of the money from the sale of their jerseys? Are the royalities split equally amongst the players (even non superstars) in the league and the NBA? Just curious if anyone knew how that all worked.Tags: None -
Re: NBA Merchandising?
The jersey makes buy a license from the NBAPA (players association) who in turn pay out royalties to specific players. NBA 2k5 and NBA Live pay a license to them also for the game. Some players can make more by not joining the PA and negotiate theirs individually. -

Re: NBA Merchandising?
Ok thanks squid.
I guess thats why Lavar wouldnt join forever.
So basically you have to have a contract with that company to make the money. The royalties dont get spread across the board, correctComment

Originally posted by fsquidRephrase that, I'm not following. I don't know how the PA distributes their royalties, they have to have a formula/system of some sort, but its not public knowledge.
This just came up because Ron Artest who used to wear number 23 is switching to 99 this season (Rodman) and then next year he will wear Pippen's number (I beleive 33) so we were wodnering if htis had an affect on his royalities. Not that his base salary isnt enough
Thanks though, I couldnt find anyone who knew about this around here (VA) so I tured to the second best placeComment
