If he doesn't bring Miami a championship, and judging by Wade's play this summer, it's going to be harder than he originally thought...then he'll be remembered as the only superstar to part ways with Laker management in a disgruntled fashion.Comment

Re: Shaq is a journalist.
ben wallace may be a great defensive center but that doesn't mean as much when you're down 5+ inches on someone like shaq. And since ben doesnt have much of an offensive game, shaq can sit back on the defensive side and put energy into the offensive side like he did against the pistons in the finals. He was unstoppable for stretches even when ben wallace was guardiing himComment

Re: Shaq is a journalist.
A lot of people always ask, “Are you mad?” It’s not that I’m mad, it’s just that I figure a guy like Shaquille O’Neal would have gotten more respect in the way they dealt with that. I understand the business, I understand this, I understand that. All you need to do is come to me and say, “Hey, we’re looking to go in a new direction,” and I’ll say OK, this is where I want to go. Don’t try to have a conversation with me like I don’t know what’s going on.
This statement I do agree with. I think they handled that whole situation wrong.
Some guys are so smart that they’re dumb. Like, Mitch Kupchak will never be remembered for anything but what? Trading me. That was the dumbest move in sports history. Congratulations, Mitch.

Re: Shaq is a journalist.
Heat still need help, both Orlando (w healthy Hill) and Washington (chemistry issues) have as good a chance at taking the division.....Shaq at 320-5 should wreak havoc, but the Heat arent a shoe in for the playoffs, much less the ring many seem ready to anoint them....If Dwade goes down as often (or even 1/2 as often) as he did last year, do you really see Shaq and EJ carrying them to the division lead? ORL is better than they were last year, and if Grant Hill is 1/2 the player he was for the whole season, they could do a worst to first (division wise).....The Wizards are primed to be last years heat with the promising scoring point (arenas) the big trying to shed the bust label (Kwame)....add to that BGrant doppelganger Etan, EJones/Larry Hughes PLUS jamison.....If we are healthy and can find a healthy balance between Kwame, Antawn and Gilbert the wizards are ready to do big things...They'll prolly fly under the radar like Miami did, and make noise in march.....
When you put last years Heat starting 5 and 6 man against this years Wiz, i think we've got the edge:
Arenas vs Dwade : both scoring pgs, but arenas does better job of running team and is a triple double threat.
Jones vs Hughes: Jones is the better shooter, but Hughes is better at playing that supplementary 2 role (see Jordan years) ala reggie, christie, etc
Caron vs Jamison: Jamison, this ones not close...
Odom vs Kwame: Odom, as of now, but Kwame is capable of 17 & 9 ....
Grant vs Haywood/Etan: Brian Grant is a great undersized rebounder, but Etan is a younger version, and Brendan is a legit 7 footer who plays his size.....I'll give it to grant for toughness..
Alston vs Blake: Skips a three point threat, but blake proved hes a better than advertised shooter from deep last year and in the summer league....he is also a more natural point...
Anyway most of you will still sleep on the Wiz and half of you will prolly ignore all the points I just made because they are about the Wiz, but we'll see...
Also, sorry for turning this into a Southeast division topic, but Shaq is overlooking more than just Ben......
PS...Kwame is over 7 foot, hes just listed at 6'11.....Last edited by Tha_Kid; 09-07-2004, 08:35 PM.Comment

Re: Shaq is a journalist.
Shaq actually has the balls to say that the Lakers wanted him to bulk up. How can anyone believe what he says at this point? He talks about championships like he's gotten them on every team he's been on. Then has the nerve to take a shot at Dr. Buss, who's been through at least 3 separate and distinct championship teams. I'm happy with what Shaq did for the Lakers, but I wish one reporter, just one would point out how he is the only player to have this many problems with the Lakers, and dynamic shooting guards. What's his excuse going to be, the moment Dwayne gets torched by Steve Frances because he doesn't come out on the pick? Dwayne may keep his mouth shut for the first year, but if he starts seeing his name in the papers the way Payton did, I can see some tension building between them.
Anyhoo, I can't wait to see him against Detroit, he's shown them no respect, and I recall Big Ben running circles around him late in the game and dunking while he stood flat footed. (Oh I forgot, it was all that "muscle" the Lakers made him gain). Not only that, but every center in the east is going to be up for those games against Shaq. If I'm an athletic center, I run his big **** up and down the court until he loses another 20 lbs.
If he had just forced his trade, and went over to the Heat, I'd root him on, but the veiled attacks against the Laker organization has put him on my ish list. Like I said, karma is a mother_______. He might want to see how the season goes before writing checks his body cant cash anymore.Comment
