                It's because other teams couldn't offer Clarkson that much money due to the Arenas thing. 4/$50 was about the max that he could get on the market I believe so the Lakers just went out and signed it themselves so that they can at least structure it without a poison pill.
                It's going to end up being in the neighborhood of 4-5 million less than the poison pill deal would have been. It reduces the cap flexibility in the first two years, but exponentially helps it in the last two. He left some money money on the table for the squad, hopefully he doesn't get shipped out in some trade down the line, because of this relatively friendly contract.

                        I thought that Jefferson was the kind of player that Bird was going away from in Indiana, but getting him at 10 per, is too good of a bargain to pass up.

                                Off the bench, just play Jefferson with the 2nd unit and run the offense through him. He's still a good scorer. Doesn't fit with the starters but any guy that can basically be a go-to scorer off the bench is a good fit for any team IMO.
