Luke Walton becomes the first 1980s-born head coach of a major American professional sports team.
              Way to go Lakers.

Now we have to milk the free agency correctly and strike some luck in the draft and we have a chance at winning 25 games next season

Huge positive for Los Angeles. Byron Scott was from an old age that didn't matter. And I do think young players need young coaches.

I wonder if Phil's discussion with Luke was to go to LA. Everyone can piece the puzzle rather easily from there.

I think it was a great pick up. Lakers love getting lakers to coach. Like i said better him than Fisher who applied for some reason.

I don't necessarily think young players need young coaches.

They just need someone who can 1) Teach them and 2)Not be stubborn in their ways to the point where they aren't willing to embrace change.

Both(Old/Young Coaches)have their flaws though so it's a matter of what's best for a particular team.

I agree. I should have said young mentality. A way to connect to them. There are definitely young coaches that want to act old school and don't connect. And there are older coaches that can adapt and know how to connect with younger guys.

I'm not paying those fools any attention and I would hope no one else does too.

But seeing where he's coming from, of course idiots are going to overreact as opposed to giving him time, like folks should. But unfortunately, we live in an instant gratification society now so people rather throw out #hottakes.

As 23 alluded to, it will be interesting to see how people react to losing streaks with Luke at the helm of the Lakers. That being said, he comes from a very solid basketball background and i'm sure from an X's and O's standpoint his father might've influenced him in some ways which is not a bad thing IMO. In spite of the goofiness throughout the years Bill Walton knows his stuff and that should be filtered on down to the son.

While I agree that young players don't necessarily need young coaches it doesn't hurt that Luke is young enough in mentality and age to "get" the players of today and how to handle them as people as well as pieces on the board in drawing up game plans. If given time and patience I think Luke Walton can be a at worst a serviceable head coach in this league.
