OS NBA Players Rating: Player #7 - Paul Pierce

Last time we voted on Antoine Walker, former star of the Boston Celtics and one half of one of the streakiest duos in the NBA. For our 7th player to vote on, we look at the other half of that former high scoring duo, Paul "The Truth" Pierce. Although not as streaky as A. Walker, Pierce has also been known to show very little hesitation to launch the three bomb. But at the same time, he shows no fear in taking it inside for the contact. He is very efficient at drawing fouls, as well as converting on the free throws. Although known as an offensive weapon for the Celtics, Pierce also packs a great defensive game. The Boston Celtics have no problem building their team around Paul Pierce who does a little bit . . . or actually does a lot of everything. Sometimes overshadowed by big-time perimeter players such as the likes of Kobe and T-mac, his game goes under the radar, but fans should know that he his very capable of turning into an NBA MVP contender with the right team. After breaking apart from good friend Antoine Walker, Pierce carried a very talent-lacking Celtics team to the playoffs, but were proven that they did not belong. He now teams up with Hall of Fame guard Gary Payton, with what should be a backcourt that matches the guards of other teams (Billups/Hamilton, Marbury/Houston).

If you vote for him to a 10/10, it would be recommended to have an explanation, but is not mandatory.

The scale is based on the CURRENT talent in the league. This means that it is possible to achieve a 10, even if the player is not Michael Jordan.

    10 - Elite Level
    5 - Average Player
1 - Surprisingly in the NBA

Again, this is on a scale of today's talent. This also means that some players can be voted as a 1/10 if they are the worst of the worst.

    9.

Inside outside at its finest. Not much more can be said. Surrounded by poor teammates IMO for the majority of his career. Love his game.

he is a 9, i'm not sure if he is 10 material simply because 10's are for players like kobe, t-mac, shaq, duncan, and kg. Great player, but not one of the best
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

            9. Really close to 10.

He is a franchise player. Can change the game in 1 second. Has inside and outside touch. Can play D... The complete package.

9; He can tear it up like none other, but he hits slumps every now and then. Once he gets a little more consistency, I think he'd be close to a 10

                    10

Im basing this off of what he can do, not just last season. I think it was amazing that many thought he had an off season, and yet he still was allstar material and all nba material (though he was shafted to make space for mike redd) He carried the Celtics on his back all season and the quality of his bench/teammates (or lack thereof) showed when the pacers blew them out (also pacers wanted revenge for the 40 pierce dropped on them in the 2003 1st rd). When he was faced with a losing streak akin to the magic's or the cavs during the mcginnis injury, he wouldnt let them lose without a fight. Hes an complete all around player, and I believe every bit as good as KB and TMAC, especially when you consider intangibles like leadership, trust, toughness, and clutch ability. Pierce is an iron man in the league, he was stabbed in one preseason and still made it opening day. Many people (myself included) wouldve been trying to leave beantown after something like that. Also, he lost his two front teeth on a no call from Amare Stoudmire in the 02-03 season, got dental work and started two days later. The guy is amazing.

Pierce isnt as athletic as KB8 and Mac, but isnt as unathletic as some believe. His fg% and 3p % especially have dipped due to having free reign and being pushed to jack up anything open by O'brien/Carroll. I believe this season, weighing less and having better conditioning, you'll see more dunks/highlights from him. Also due to having GP to run the show, his turnovers will decline (back down to 3 per) and his fg % will increase. despite a 29% from the 3 last year, hes still a 34% career shooter, so you know that will rise also. Paul Pierce in a stable environment is good for 25/7/5 per.

Pierce has gone head to head with the best and come out on top. In the 02 playoffs, pierce went toe to toe with AI in the first round, taking it to a game 5. It was pierce who came to play in the decisive game prompting the fans to chant "theres no answer for the truth"...Pierce has had his battles with Kobe and last season Tmac cited him as one of the toughest guys he has to defend in the L. Paul schooled Lebron last season in a battle Id say was better than the televised one with tmac, but got no attention for it. I believe Paul is the best 2 guard in the League due to my belief that if you swapped the situations of him and TMac, or him and KB, he would've performed superior to them both.

All that said, if I wasnt a big fan, he gets a 9, but only because I steadfastly believe elite bigs will always be better than elite guards. KG/TD would get 10s, KB would get the 9 like pierce, and mac would get a 9. I think if you look at the mans game and career and current circumstances, theres no way you can honestly rate him less than an 8.
