Ibaka kills me man. He might be the next Josh Smith in terms of having everything you need to be a top tier player and just never playing remotely close to his potential.

Of course he would go out and get 31, 9, and 4 blocks against his former team. Meanwhile he'll just average 12/5/1 on the year playing "lazy" (for lack of a better term) just as he did with OKC. I'd give anything to see what he could be if he played with half the aggression he's capable of for a full season and not just bits and pieces of it.

            "Next Josh Smith".

Lol stop. My hyperbole is rubbing off on you, man. That's not good.

In my opinion he's already that bad. At least Josh Smith could get you 15+ and 8+ with solid defense while he was letting you down, Ibaka can't even do that. The only thing he had going for him was "at least he will block a lot of shots while he lets you down else where" and now he doesn't even do that anymore either.

Not going to fall for the bait on this silly comparison.

No sir, I will resist this time.

I imagine its difficult to go from a pick and pop/ spot up/ garbage guy to a guy expected to create offense. I actually think Vogel brings it out of him, if not this year then next year.

Ok, don't take the bait. But tell me what's silly about what I said?

You don't think Ibaka has all the athletic abilities, skills, and intangibles to be a MUCH better player than he is? Because that's exactly what we got with Smith too.

Josh Smith was a stat padding loser with 0 BBIQ who impacted the game in minimum ways possible, who scraped by with his athleticism alone and this is during his best days. We seen what happened once that started going away. He made zero attempt to evolve his game outside of that and now his dumb*** is playing overseas because nobody wants his dumb*** over here and would rather take their chance on some journeyman, D-Leaguer instead.

And then he(not coaching, like how Brooks started telling Ibaka the year after they got back to the Finals)decided he should become Joe Johnson-lite, taking contested, pull-up 3s in transition when it did nothing but hurt his team on both ends.

Ibaka actually had put his package together and it resulted in him being one of the better defenders in the league, one of the smartest guys in the league at his position and could actually evolve his game on a team where he played with 2 guys who dominated the ball more than 70% of the time.

That's why that ****ing comparison is so ****ing silly. Now is you done or is you finished with these silly comparisons?

You would think we'd all know this by now and would think it's not a simple/quick adjustment but alas.

Maybe. Hell I hope he goes and proves me wrong. Right now though I'm done giving him the benefit of the doubt. A few years ago I was with the "man if he wasn't behind Russ/KD" and then he stopped developing and I took it back. Now he's in a new situation with a chance to prove himself and he's STILL regressing..

The dude is 6'10 - 6'11 height range, has a 7'3 wing span, vert around 35", standing reach of at least 9'3", he's one of the quickest big men in the league, can run the floor as well as guys like Amar'e could, for example, and just doesn't put any of it together.

He's oozing potential but doesn't tap into any of it. He stands, a lot. At least at one point would block 3-4 shots a game, snag 8 or so boards, shoot 55%+ from the floor. He's regressing in nearly every area of his game imaginable.

All his abilities and he's literally a worse rebounder than Dirk was, his blocks have been cut in half (actually by more this year), BLK% cut in half, DRtg progressively getting worse. Nothing he was once good at is he even above average at the past 2-3 years. Chris Paul is grabbing more boards than him, even with Blake and DJ snagging the majority. He's not even in the top 25 in rebounding for just Power Forwards, forget all the other positions.

And IMO, especially after seeing how aggressive he was against his former team, it's mostly effort related. Done with him, until he can make me eat crow.

                          /rant

                            .

But when did I say their gameplay was identical or that they did the exact same things on the court?

I said they both are/were failing miserably to reach their potential because they couldn't/wouldn't put it all together.

Neither player evolved, neither player improved.

And that's not true. For one of them that is but I digress.

You got it though, man. Josh Smith Jr is what he is and is what will define his career.
