    Pippen Article

I thought this was a phenominal article. I've always made many of the same arguments against a good number of ignorant detractors, but Simmons articulates them really well.

To the "what did he win without MJ" crowd, how about 55 games with a mediocre team and robbed out of a trip to the finals by the refs. Besides, you can't name one team in the history of the NBA that would've won the championship without their best player.
Perhaps all of the Kobe-MJ comparisons should've been Kobe-Pippen instead. Even that might be generous if the Lakers struggle to make the playoffs this year.

FYI Simmons is a Celtics fan.

It is a great article and Pippen deserves the props, but to make it a Kobe, Pippen thing is very unfair. Kobe's team isnt coming off a title like that team was, and it made a big trade and changed their whole roster. The Bulls team stayed mostly in tact besides Jordan and had good pieces.

        Re: Pippen Article

Pip had a tough road no doubt. Management did'nt wanna pay him and he played through it. He career is overshadowed by Jordan's career. And ppl like to sum his entire career as a "what if" type of career. He did kinda quietly retire with no fanfair or praise from his former team. Kinda sad if you ask me.

You cant compare Pip to Kobe based off posters points. Pip had a Jordanless Bulls team that won a chip the previous year. Kobe has a totally new, revamped Laker team with almost no ties to the championship teams a few years ago.

Fair enough, maybe I went a tad overboard with that comment. Still, the 2nd best player on that team was Toni freaking Kukoc. I don't remember if the Center at the time was Longley or Cartwright, or Wennington, but man, that was not a good supporting cast.
To be fair, the West now is also a much better conference than the East was even 10 years ago.
However, I don't think the fact that the Lakers aren't coming off a title means anything. I mean, they lost in the finals partly because Kobe didn't play all that well.

But I don't want to make the rest of this thread about Kobe. I just want to hear an argument from one of the Pippen nay-sayers, because I know there are plenty out there.

Its about time someone stand up and defended Pippen the greatest wing defender of this generation. People often try to ovverate him, and dis him by comparing a a kobe bryant to a scottie pippen which is ridiculous much props to the article. Maybe now Kobe stans wont try to hold there hero up over the all time nba greats

Props to Pip. Didn't he win the All-Star MVP that same year.

He played his butt off the year Jordan was away.

and yes the Bulls were robbed by a phantom call by the refs against the Knicks.

Pipper was a great great player, and people seem to always underrate him.

Pippen was a rare breed who could do it all, his 94 season was unreal. They got screwed big time and it would have been fun to see the bulls vs Houston that year. I got nothing but respect for him!
