    I have a favorite player, and I have a favorite team. If they coincide, thats just gravy. I love the wizards, I will always follow them, the only thing that permits you to switch up your team IMO is if they move the franchise. conversely, my fav. player is Paul Pierce, and while I follow the Celts, i prolly wouldnt give a **** about them if they traded him...

      In todays game the star player is placed well above 'team' in importance. So I would think this is quite common actually. People are probably more loyal to players than teams. Unless it's their hometown team. But that's a shift recently.
