Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
Ahhh i just had a epiphany. The reason why I beleived attendance is low is due to HDTV. High def viewing lets you see up into the stands and spot more empty seats compared to the old way of watching when the camera was more focused on the court so the crowd used to look like a blur. Thats my revelation. Nothing to see here lol.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
I dont really know if attendance is down or not, but if it is, it might be because of how soft the league has gotten. Not sure we need to bring back having brawling matches, but I do know this day in age where players are being catered too, and kept out of games for rest, is a bunch of BS. If your not injured you play simple as that. Its ridiculous how soft not just athletes are these days, but this generation as a whole, but thats a whole nother topic, and not really a topic for a sports forum, so I will leave that alone, lol. Now if Coaches want to cut back the minutes of some of his players late in the season, then he should do so for the benefit of the team as the goal is to win a championship, but just not playing your best players for any reason other than just to rest them is wrong. Quite frankly, its not really to far from throwing a game on purpose.
This is day in age where athletes are suppose to be in so much better shape due to advance training methods, yet they play less minutes than the previous era's, doesnt make much sense now. I know in some cases anyway that its the GM and/or coach making these decision to sit players, and not all the fault of the players, but something needs to be done about it, because I got a feeling if its not happened already it will eventually start hurting attendance and revenue of the league.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Why would you play someone for limited minutes rather than sit them though? What's the benefit of that? Seems more likely to cause injury if you're sitting them for extended periods and sending them back into the game cold and expecting them to exert themselves to the point of being the best player on the court after sitting for 15 minutes while everyone else is fresh.

You can cut minutes back, without them sitting for long periods of time. Injuries happen, with no ryme or reason, so I dont know if I really buy into the whole rest thing, completely anyway as far as injuries are concerned anyway. As I said in my previous post, why is it that in previous era's where the game was actually more physical, that guys played and didnt rest games, and played more minutes in some cases, than guys do now, yet in todays age with all the advance training and supposedly the athlete of today is in so much better shape physically that they need to rest? It just dont make sense, because I actually do believe guys of today are in better physical shape, as far as fat% goes, and obviously training has been taken to a whole nother level.
I dont know if attendance is down really, and if it is, it might not have nothing to even do with stars setting out games to rest, it might just be lack of money, lord knows the past 10 yrs or so, has not been good for most people financially. It does look like Silver isnt happy about the players resting, so looks like something might get done with it, so maybe it is affecting the money flow in the league after all. Obviously some fans arent happy, which is too be expected, you cant please everyone, but I can see why some would be upset too.
IMO what Coach Pop did, was understandable he had old guys he was tryin to win with, so maybe the league looks into what I think Karl Malone said, if a player has been in the league 10 yrs, then they can rest games.
I think we all know all teams have to do is, make up a injury, so Im not sure the league will be able to stop it, but they may be able to not have it happen as often.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
Just saw a scrawl on ESPN that the NBA set all-time attendance records with over 22 million total attendees and an average of over 17,800.
They also tied the number of sellouts set in the 2015-2016 season.
So despite all the noise about stars resting in games, the fans have continued to buy tickets.Comment

Guess that answers the question on if attendance is down or not, lol.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
Either way, I hope NBA changes their schedule up. Why exactly can't they start in early-October? Add 2 weeks to the season, and amount of back to backs is reduced by like 10 or so per team. One back to back per month is basically what they're left with by adding 2 weeks to the season.Comment

Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
Probably because there are all kinds of schedule conflicts with other events in the same venues.
For instance, Warriors Game 5 in the first round is scheduled at the same time as some rap concert at Oracle so they may have to juggle.
Also the sports leagues coordinate with each other to minimize overlap against each other. Not just for sharing arenas but to maximize the TV audience.
If you extend the NBA season into the start of the NFL season and the NHL season, they're probably not maximizing revenues.Comment

Re: Is it me or is attendance real low this year?
Having players getting injured and resting because of all these back to backs also doesn't help maximize revenues.
There's a dozen or so teams that share NBA/NHL arenas, so I'm sure they could find workarounds to balance out both schedules. Not to mention NHL season starts right around NBA season anyways, and they're facing a similar issue with teams hating amount of back to backs they have.
As for NFL, that's maybe 1 extra game that an earlier NBA season might conflict with per market that has an NFL team. Not entirely a major loss.Comment

Didn't they already agree to start next season in mid October?
