Re: 2/7 - 2/16 Games Discussion Thread
Touching a shooter's elbow may be the most disruptive contact a defender can make, to be honest. It's a hard one to accept, but if the ref sees that contact it'd be pretty criminal not to call it.
With that said, what the hell was the play??? That was taking bad iso ball to a new level.
Butler caught it with 8 seconds left... literally stood still for 5 seconds, then did a one dribble, turn around fade away, starting the move with 3 seconds on the clock.
You can tell me I'm wrong about the foul, whatever... people should be hammering him and the organization for that sequence, down by one with a chance to win.Comment

You are right in that touching a shooters elbow is up there as the most disruptive thing that can be done. I just don't agree that a foul should be called in that situation when Smart barely brushed the elbow. Of course there were many other factors that went into Boston losing besides the foul call at the end. Rebounding being the main culprit. I just hate seeing a game end that way.
I agree with your take on Chicago's final playcall out of the timeout. But I guess it worked so what do I know, lol.Comment

Re: 2/7 - 2/16 Games Discussion Thread
Butler has hit a couple of game winners this season on ISOs from the right elbow. Those have been hard couple of dribbles into a step back fadeaway.
This play, he didn't take the best shot, a one dribble spin and fadeaway. Smart should have been happy just to force that kind of shot but he reached up and touched the elbow, even though he was nowhere close to challenging the release.
Anyways, Celtics have been playing well, some of the wins probably had to have many things go right. So they were inevitably going to be unlucky at some point.Comment

I hate the call but Butler was on the line and short so I can see how the touch might have disrupted the power in his shot."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: 2/7 - 2/16 Games Discussion Thread
Brad Daugherty said elbow touch is one of the most disruptive contact for shooter.
Whatever, if it's in the rule book, it's in the rule book.
But the criticism is that the ref didn't call it initially, he watched to see if the shot went in and Butler complained.
That is why the Celtics are probably angry.Comment

This is pretty much how I feel. It all evens itself out over the course of an 82-game schedule. Some nights the bounces and calls are gonna be against ya. It is what it is.Comment

My take on the call. After seeing the Bulls on the wrong side of these calls and pretty much NEVER getting calls like that for close to 20 years now since MJ left, I couldn't give two drops of piss about Celtics fans of all people being pissed about that call. Keeping it [emoji817]

I always thought it was supposed to be like the 4 latest first round picks they had but I think Zach said a Brooklyn pick was in there too? That's insane. Boston got so lucky

But I think you're right.
