Gobert ruled out for Game 3, but has basically been confirmed to return later on in the series.

Speaking of that Finals, I'm imagining what kind of stat line Westbrook could put up against the Warriors in a high-scoring competitive playoff game. I would think 50-60 shots and a 60 point triple double would be doable, if his heart didnt explode first. Didn't get to see it in the regular season cuz those were blowouts.

Hard to disagree with any of this because it's true.
Yeah, agreed... that's a great summary.

"While Westbrook may have been statistically spectacular, his play probably hurt the Thunder."

This is a MUCH more efficient way of saying what I was trying to.

"The team around him is stunted by Russball. They’re out of rhythm from 47 minutes of being uninvolved — and out of practice from a season where all strategy besides Westbrook has been abandoned. So they turn back to Russ, who just hoists hopelessly."

As is this, when I say it's unfair to compare supporting casts to decide the individual award.

Since this is the game thread, and not the MVP thread, I'd like to turn the attention to the coaching. Kind of funny getting on OKC coaches yet again, but this is the time of year that adjustments need to be made.

Well then it's unfair to put so much emphasis on games won when there are 12 other players on the team. It can't work both ways and only ignore what's around the player (teammates, coaches, system, etc) for one side of the argument.

I mean, when your offense is literally designed to cater to one player (Westbrook), if you don't have anyone else that can come off the bench and do the things he does, you are going to struggle. That's the issue with relying on one player to "carry" a team, no matter how great he is. We kind of see that with Lebron's teams as well on a lesser scale. Their style of play has that effect.

I read them both but I'm not talking about either of them I'm talking about in terms of your MVP voting logic. You can't say his team shouldn't have any effect on an individual award and then say that his team's success should.

I really like another quote from that piece.

One can imagine this Thunder roster being competitive with Westbrook functioning like a normal superstar. Instead, he’s turned into the crazed captain of his ship, and his insistence on trying to catch the white whale on every possession will lead to disaster.
He simply could not alter his play style to test if less could be actually be more.

Lebron though, even when he had 2nd or 3rd tier teammates, was always a player who was invested in trying to make the game easier for everyone else, always trying keep everyone engaged and involved on both ends of the court. Most of the time they just couldn't make the necessary plays, but he wasn't going to ever effectively freeze them out of a game.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

No offense what so ever in this game lol. Outside of Kawhi, Mills, ZBo, and Mark it feels like everyone else has done about as much as I have in this game lol. Memphis perimeter guys look scared to shoot, at least it keeps the pace slow and ugly. Their only shot at taking a game.

Kawhi 2 points on 2 attempts in the second half. Wtf?

                                They lost with him.

But I get what you're saying, they needed more activity / attempts from him.
