    2017 Offseason Thread

5 years wasted for the Clippers because of their GM/Coach and among other things.

    Dre, please get your team.

Important thing here is Paul aligns his free agency with LeBron, Wade and a Melo that just needs to opt out.

I'm not saying it's really happening, but it's going to start leaking.

Harden already played with Westbrook and Durant ( obviously not as ball dominant as Westbrook). This will work fine.

Not unless they make more trades. Paul's salary is higher than the total of Bev, Lou, and Dekker's, so they have less room to work with now.

I'm not even sure how this trade was possible given the Rockets cap room only being 3 mil. Rockets are taking on almost 10 million more than they are shedding. It'll be interesting to get all the details.

EDIT: I didn't factor in any of this offseasons expiring contracts for Houston, so my math is a little off, oops. It still doesn't look to be that much more than a few million in difference.

It's real. The Clippers look to be breaking the band up -- they floated Jordan in trade rumors during the draft, I would expect he's back in them before the end of this week.

The Clippers being the first ones to break it up will have a domino effect on all of free agency. Does Gordon Hayward see the Clippers go down and run East? Or does he stay in Utah and aim to take that "dark-horse title team" mantle from LAC?

What does this make the Pacers think? Paul's deal might set the standard for what other teams will offer for PG13 now -- and George is more a flight risk than CP3. Even with George being younger and playing as a wing, seeing how little CP3 fetched has to be disheartening for the Pacers front office. Paul is the best point guard of his generation and looks like he'll age well going forward ... seeing him fetch back Sam Dekker, Lou Williams, Patrick Beverly and a random 2018 first rounder seems more like a bad 2K trade than real life.

What about Boston? Griffin is free to be poached now and, arguably, would make a better fit than Hayward since he'll bring some size and rebounding to the woeful Celtics front-court. Griffin can be easier to convince going forward.

              Fascinating.

Paul told the Clippers he planned to sign with the Rockets as a free agent but it would better if they tried to work out a trade, according to Woj.
Wonder what this means for Jordan going forward?

Rockets looking to add 3rd star to play alongside Harden and Paul, per Jeff Goodman.

Something to keep an eye on if you're a Celtics fan.

This trade has me very confused. Any salary cap/CBA experts in here? Some guy on twitter is calling me an idiot, saying Houston freed up cap room with this trade, giving them a chance at signing another big FA. But, Paul's contract is around 24 million, and the total of Lou, Beverly, and Dekker is about 15 mil.

                    What am I missing here?

Harden wasn't the player/playmaker he is now though. Personally I don't think they're a great fit to each other.

Harden spent a lot of time at the point guard spot when on the floor with Westbrook and Durant.

Yeah. My point is it worked with a very ball dominant guard before and Paul is a much better shooter. Houston will provide Paul and Harden with plenty of shooting so I don't see why this won't work.

Paul of course had the leverage of being able to leave right now for nothing. If George had that same leverage, he'd be on the Lakers right now with the Pacers getting Clarkson and those two first round picks. A deal that I'm sure that they rejected out of hand since George is locked up for one more year.

Some other non Guaranteed deals are going to the Clippers or will be renounced to allow for Paul to be absorbed, but to get another big FA they will probably have to someone to take Anderson.

CP3 and Harden is a solid backcourt but what does it offer Houston other than somebody else who can get 9/10 assists? It reverts Harden back to what he was previously and they've given up so much for him.
