Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
My guess D'Antoni doesn't care what Melo thinks.
Houston with Morey is probably the one place that would back D'Antoni over Melo in any disputes.
Mike has the full support of Houston's big star and that also protects him.
That said, I don't get it for Melo. If he agrees to go to Houston, it only further proves his selfishness. He would be willing to finally play under D'Antoni rules now because of Chris Paul, but couldn't be bothered to do it in the past when he was supposed to be the team leader?
Not even sure I get Moreys fascination with him. Melo has been a cancer in New York to every coach. The one constant is teammates talking about how some guys don't buy in. This happened under D'Antoni and it happened with the triangle. The only player in both systems was Melo.
But Morey did say they were willing to up their risk profile. This is an extreme risk for a team that knows how chemistry can take them down quickly (see Howard)
In terms of chances of success, I know Mike has dreams of utilizing Melos talents on the court. If Melo would just listen, he could be dynamic in Houston.
That's a nightmare to defend. Paul, Harden, Gordon and Melo with Nene streaking down the court.

Melo = selfish team cancer for refusing to play in system he didn't want to play in
Phil = out of touch wannabe coach who refused to change his system and tried to force players into it

I actually side with Melo on both counts. I think a coach should adapt to his players.
But if Melo decided to now play as D'Antoni required, it would be selfish of him to only consider his play previous but suddenly care about the team.

Nets are meeting with Wiz SF Otto Porter today per CBS Sports.
If they miss out on him, I'd like to see them go after Tim Hardaway Jr and Jamychal Green, who are both RFAs.

Like JB said though this deal seems so unlikely. If we take back Ryan Anderson we end up worse off.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
Melo might be more willing to work with D'antoni if the plan is to build the offfense around CP3 and Harden, versus build the offense around Jeremy Lin.
But yea makes no sense to take Anderson back. I think Ariza and Gordon could work or come close to working, but I doubt the Rockets do that.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
If the Wizards are willing to give Porter the max then they might as well bite the ****ing bullet and do it. Next year John Wall will the highest paid on the squad so that should hopefully settle things (unless he signs that extension this year). I know Porter isn't worth the max especially on the Kings or Nets where his limitations wouldn't be offset, but we still need his contributions here. Bite the bullet.
Hopefully we can still keep Bogan on the bench. Apparently he's getting interest from ATL, Denver, and Sacramento. I'm sure one of them will offer him a starting spot. We still need his jump shots even with the Meeks signing. Gotta give Fraiser some shooters to kick it out to for the second squad unless Oubre makes a surprise leap in his offensive game over the off-season.

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
How is Boston, or Miami for that matter, the better option when both are overloaded with players that play Gordon's best and secondary position?
His best move is staying put and seeing if Utah can take the next step. Utah should also seriously think about offloading Derrick Favors for a better fitting PF (LaMarcus Aldridge, please).
No, matter fact let him go east so Kawhi has one less SF to worry about (3 - 4 × a year).
from Bills Backer/Spurs Nation HQ
I think BOS is the more talented team when in regards to Miami. Miami would become a top 4 seed BOS already is that's all. BOS best lineups all season long were Crowder a smallball 4 so not sure why much would really change. so I don't get that.
I don't deny UTAH is v good option. and now that they retained Ingles it's probably likely destination.
Miami may be a better place to live quality of life wise and a betetr FA destination than both Boston or Utah. However, even with Hayward, Whiteside, and Dragic, they're still a player away (which they can't afford) from being true contenders in the East. Boston is already a top team in the East and as currently constructed of the three teams would be the closest to making a run at the Finals. Plus, Boston's future is much brighter. Obviously, they have a ton of quality draft picks going forward, whereas Utah only has their own picks (which shouldn't be that great) and Miami has their picks next year (protected 1-7, so it's likely gone) and in 2021 going to Phoenix.
I wouldn't bet on him leaving Utah, but if I were a Jazz fan I would be nervous. I mean, how many max level FA's in the past few years have we seen go on a serious FA tour and not leave? Melo is the only one I can think of.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: 2017 Offseason Thread
I still hate the Mahimi contract. He has to show something this year or we'll need not only a backup to Gortat but a replacement for Gortat, too. I'm OK with where they're at and what they've done. They've added some good pieces to the bench. Hopefully will keep the starting lineup together.
Looking forward I want him thinking about who we're going to get to be our big man once Gortat is done or needs replacing, though. I would love to get Boogie or someone similar, but I don't know if that is a pipe-dream or even worth mentioning anymore.
