If we're into rumors that will end up not happening:

A Cuse alum I know has a friend on the Celtics staff and that guy told him their current plan is to try to sign Hayward and then trade Isaiah, Smart, and Crowder in a sign-and-trade for Blake Griffin and then roll with Fultz as their starting PG.

We're only one week away from the NBA draft.

Yeah, seems pretty crazy. He's saying Boston would be willing to include draft picks to make it happen too. I would have to think that IF the basic idea that they want to sign-and-trade for Blake is true, the real story is that they'd be willing to include one or two of those pieces; not all of them.

He's saying the basic premise is that Ainge wants to trade Isaiah and Avery Bradley is the guy in the backcourt that he wants to invest long-term in.

I'm not much of an expert on the NBA's rules. Obviously, they would need to move some contracts to get both Hayward and Blake. However, couldn't he trade whatever contracts he needs to make room for them to other teams, then sign Blake outright since he's a free agent? It seems like he could get more value without giving up as many assets that way.

Would be tough to do that without taking a lot of salary back.

Could be wrong because I haven't looked at it closely, but I would think they'd have to trade basically all those guys if they want to have a chance at room for both of them.

Trading for Blake gives you his bird rights though. Which makes the cap less of an issue.

Well, that's true, however handing over the PG keys to a rookie makes me really nervous.

Might as well rebuild while King James is still in the East.

                          So, one more year.

Woj says LBJ headed West could be a reality, OS scoffs. YTG knows a guy who knows a guy on the Celtics staff, OS breaks out the calculators to make salaries work.

Don't really think that'd work for them. Looking at their roster, they're already on the hook for about 70 million taking away all the Jerebkos and Amir Johnsons of the world. You figure Hayward isn't signing for less that 24-25 mil in the first year of his new deal, salary cap is 101 mil next season. Blake is probably signing a max. No way you sign them both outright without trading significant pieces.
