    Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

No one is taking Mozgov's contract. Most probable scenario is him getting cut and using the stretch provision although there will always be a cap hit doing that.

These are the situations where I would never trust Magic as a GM/Pres/whatever his title is.

Magic always strikes me as the emotional type. The talk of him trying to move up from #2 to #1 if it was true confirms that.

I think he should just hold tight because there are 2 really good players who want to play for his team: PG & Lonzo.

He can have both if he's just patient. Play his cards right and he could get the big catch from Cleveland to pair with them a year from now.

Magic is in the driver's seat right now. Time for him to play Poker not Go Fish.

Another team could swoop in and maybe try to convince him to extend.

So Lakers can't just assume they can bide their time.

Though this upcoming season will show whether they are justified in having so much faith in Ingram.

If he still shoots under 30% from distance, then the bloom will be off the rose.

If he shoots 35%, then he could be on his way.

Sense from teams talking to IND is that Pacers intend to move fast on a PG deal.

If I'm the Lakers, I make a move now because I wouldn't want to risk PG changing his mind after playing with Bron and going on a deep playoff run.

              Re: 2017 Offseason Thread

              Per ProBasketballTalk

We’ve seen fewer short term rentals for players in recent years due to the valuation of picks vs. players changing in the last decade, and George is slated to make $19.5 million next season. That will make it hard for any team currently in contention to make a swap for him, given the salary considerations.

George reportedly has stated his desire to the Pacers to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, which will further put off trade suitors.

Sense from teams talking to IND is that Pacers intend to move fast on a PG deal.

              — Zach Lowe (@ZachLowe_NBA) June 19, 2017

L.A. also seems unlikely to trade for George directly, although it’s possible there comes a scenario where they are involved in some kind of trade to jumpstart the core of that team early. ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne has reported that Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka are not interested in trading for George at the moment, which would make sense if they think he’s just going to sign with them anyway.

Meanwhile, teams around the league will be looking at their dead salary (what little of it there is) and wondering how low the bar will go on George as Indiana tries to recoup their losses. With news of George’s desire for departure now public knowledge, their bargaining power has been significantly reduced.

Ah, the offseason. It’s already here, and it’s crazy.

                Love's salary is ridiculous.
His age and health is not on the uptick.
Love is only 28 years old and entering the third year of his 5-yr contract (owing about $72 million over the next 3 years). I think he could compliment Turner nicely and still keep them in the Playoff hunt.

Coupled that with even late-round picks and it'll already be better than what most teams are prepared to offer.

That doesn't mean Indiana wants him.

That's totally not the player they want or need right now.

Pacers just need to embrace a rebuild at this point.

Got that from another forum :
Mike & Mike are on right now, and they are saying that Ainge thought Fultz was in the same skill group as 4-5 other draftees. And, Ainge didn't think there was a surefire star in the draft.

Ainge was okay with trading Fultz because he thought he could get JJ/Tatum/Fox and they were just as good as Fultz or Ball.

There is no point for the Lakers trading for George.

How will they be any better than what Indiana is now and they're in the Western Conference?

Even if this were true, Indy won 42 games and the Lakers won 26. That's +16 right there. Should they not be trying to improve the team?

Yes they should try to improve their team.

I don't see them becoming a 42 win team given the Western conference and the roster not being as good as Indiana especially if they have to make the trade. Realistically, they have to have to include draft picks to make a trade work.

They have to attach draft picks to get rid of Deng or Mosgov in separate deals to open up cap space to get talent. They haven't demonstrated an ability to get free agents recently and unless they're getting Lebron then who are they getting?

So I don't see the point if you're lacking draft picks and you're not luring any other free agents to play with him.
