Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
Yes, I personally like playing defense. I don't believe in a Larry Brown "Let's score 60, and hold 'em to 59" defensive philosophy, but I do like D.

The "Iversonization" of basketball continues....

Yeah ... right ... 'cause AI is all about the dunk. And he is completely incapable of D'ing up his man, and, say, leading the league in steals.
I agree with your general point, but point the finger elsewhere.5WG | Facebook | Twitter | fiftytwoplays

Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
Iverson gets his steals by gambling and playing passing lanes, because he had a great shotblocking big man behind him if he didn't make the play.
Iverson doesn't lead the league is steals because he is a great man to man defender.Comment

Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
Exactly right. Iverson is strictly a gambler. He has zero interests in "locking" his man up. As long as he get's his 30 shots, he's cool... By "Iversonization" I mean the love affair the young headz have with "crossing up" somebody as opposed to the fundamentals of the game. I think the game is suffering big time and that has manifested itself into the video game arena.Comment

Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
I hope Pro level online is not too prone to players like michael finley and reggie miller going off on you from 3 pt. range.
I had some great pacer-Maverick battles. Fin had 6 to 10 3's a game. Reggie could have 8-15, with like 20 attempts.
It was so easy you're whole philsophy changed once you hit 5 consecutive 3's in a row.
It was like "I play tight double coverage man defense, and Michael is still scoring 3's" you change to where its" Let him have his shots, while I dont waste my defensive energy defending him and just going for three's.
I had over 2 dozen games like this online in nba2k1.Comment

I agree wholeheartedly with you on this. Today's players only care about "breakin' ankles" or hitting three's. There is no emphasis on playing "D" or running plays. Everybody wants to run and gun and nobody wants to take time to set a pick or run a backdoor cut. That is why the Europeans are starting to gain on the U.S.Comment

Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
Iverson can play 'd' ok? look he led the league in steals and ........ hes only a 6'0 shooting guard! so how the hell can he defen sum 1 like kobe or Stack so he defends the point gaurds and I dont see ppl like Derek Fisher or any1 else have big games against him! And dunt try to say sum 1 else that is good at dunks cant play d because there a few players in the leaugue that play bad 'd' -- but not everyone is a Bruce Bowen or ShaQComment

Of course he's gonna play the passing lanes. He's matched up on the point guard, most of the time. He will seldom be on a real scorer.
Anyways, since when is "playing the passing lanes" equivalent to "not playing defense"? D is only man-to-man D? I always thought it was denying the other team scoring opportunities.
I agree that a lot of the NBA has turned into an And1 exhibition, I just don't think he's the example. Allen plays D, and is always more about the win than his performance.
Vince Carter, on the other hand .... "Carterization"? All dunk, no heart.5WG | Facebook | Twitter | fiftytwoplays

Re: Does anyone care about playing D?
"AI" has no interest in stopping anyone. There are alot of Kobe haters on this board but at least he makes a effort to shut his man down. "AI" does not have any interest in guarding the top guard on the opposing team. "Zeke" was 6'0 but he would guard anyone. "Joe D" was 6'3 and he gave MJ fits, so stop. For the young heads, "Zeke" is Isiah Thomas and "Joe D" Joe Dumars.Comment
