    Jordan vs. Kobe

[This is somewhat related to some of the other topics about Kobe right now but since it's a bit different I didn't want to hijack someone else's post so I started this one).

After reading this article I started to think about Jordan vs. Kobe. Being from Chicago, I got to see/hear everything about Michael. I think overall he was a classy guy and a smart businessman. Yes, he had some gambling problems and some family problems, but hey, no one is perfect.

Then you look at Kobe....who has had a power struggle with Shaq over who's the real superstar on the Lakers. He had the alleged rape incident and now this. It never seems to end with him.

When he came into the league I never thought he'd be as good as Jordan. After a few years I realized he was very good...one of the top in the league. However, while he may be a talented basketball player, he is a completely different person and I think for that his image will be tarnished and he'll never be looked at the same way Jordan is.

    Re: Jordan vs. Kobe

The rape case has already tarnished his image. Kobe was headed to Jordan-esq status until he got caught up.

And then you gotta remember, back in the late 80s and 90s, the media was'nt all in most athletes business off the court. When you were considered a role model in professional sports, you were treated like a god and showered with praises. They never dug deep into your personal life like they do today. Todays reporters and media execs want nothing but the dirt on players ever since high callibur superstars like AI and Ray Lewis were getting into trouble. Every since then, each and every player that builds up a role model, superstar status from the positive media is counter-attacked by the negative media who searches for all closet skeletons and throws them out to the public immediately.

MJ would have not survived in todays age of the media. His gambling problems as well as his mistress would have been brought to light already and that would of tarnished his image. Lets just say, players like AI, Lewis, Spree, Ricky Williams and Kobe have ruined it for the next superstars because they're lives will be just as scrutinized.

        i agree...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

I think when your at the top of your game.. there will always be someone to try and bring you down.

I can remember the books, stories.. and other media types tried to attack Jordan as a person. That he wasn't what people thought he was. Jordan's play and championships and just being smart about his business overshadowed the negative.

Kobe was on the same road.. it was just attempts to attack his character.. by the media.. but the alledged Rape, put Kobe at a level where it will be hard to recover from.

            MJ was Great!
Kobe is an elite player of the NBA now, only time will tell how Kobe's career will pan out image wise. I do believe.. he's young enough and has many years ahead of him to recover his image to at least a decent level.

Shoot look at Marv Albert.. he's a freak. I think he's progressing along fine to get back to where he was before his own drama.

although I do not like kobe as a basketball player, I do respect him as a person. Nobody is perfect even if you're a superstar athlete. I have to admit Kobe is one of the superstars of the league, but he's not near Jordan's elite status.

I personally don't care if athletes mess up off the court or whatever, we all do it anyway, it's just the media is stupid and make a huge deal about it. If we just pay attention to what goes on-court, we can respect both the players and the game of basketball more.
