Here's a thought. Likely not the case, but it is a thought I guess. What if this was the play from Kawhi and his camp the whole time? They got wind that there wasn't any certainty that the Spurs would be willing to give him the supermax and with the injury last season, it made it even less likely that they'd be willing to do it. So you create this environment where Kawhi's camp, NOT Kawhi is the bad guy pushing him away from the franchise and making it known that LA is the place he's got his eyes locked on in an attempt to push San Antonio into a state of desperation where putting the supermax on the table is the best chance to keep Kawhi with the organization?

This is straight up the B plot of an unmade television series about professional basketball.

So is the Ball family and LaVar’s entire existence, but here we are lol. Stranger things have happened in the league. I could see this being a real thing. They probably think it’s a win/win scenario for Kawhi. Either it works and SA gives him the supermax or worst case, he gets traded to his hometown team or traded out of SA and signs with his home team anyway.

So after signing Nemanja Bjelica a few days ago as a free agent. He has informed the 76ers this morning that he’s just going to stay overseas this season.

King is overthinking this. All Kawhi had to do was say supermax or I walk.

The entire league is kinda in a wait and see mindset when it comes to him. Man that is never a good spot for a player to be in.

Kawhi Leonard considers participating in USA Basketball camp, plus some nuggets of info regarding his trade status.

San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard is seriously considering participation in the USA Basketball national team's minicamp in Las Vegas next week, an event for the embattled All-NBA forward to showcase the status of his recovery to prospective trade partners, league sources told ESPN.

Leonard has been listed as one of the 35 players invited to the camp at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas since April, but his recovery from a season-ending quadriceps injury and possible trade status created uncertainty about his intentions.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will lead the camp in his role as national team coach.

Trade talks with several teams continue, with traction slowly, surely gathering with offers for a star insisting that he wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. If the Spurs are losing deal leverage, they aren't operating in a manner that suggests they're peddling a depreciating asset. San Antonio has been determined in demanding a sizable return on Leonard.

Still, the bidding war among Boston, Philadelphia and the Lakers never materialized. The Los Angeles Clippers, Denver, Phoenix, Portland, Toronto and Washington are among teams who've talked with San Antonio, league sources said.

As examples, no Blazers package includes Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum, league sources said. Because Leonard is a player teams fear could be a one-year rental, many offers are modified.

So far, the Sixers have held out three players -- Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz -- in talks. Boston hasn't included five players, including Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Al Horford. The Celtics and Sixers have offered pick-heavy packages that haven't moved the Spurs, league sources said.

The Sixers have the most insight into his medical condition because Leonard used New York-based Jonathan Glashow, the Sixers' orthopedic surgeon, as one of his primary outside physicians. "In some ways, [Leonard] has made it so the Sixers know more about his recovery than the Spurs do," one rival executive said.

Wonder what Washington would offer. I guess its a pipe dream to think they can land Leonard while keeping Beal and Wall and making Porter the centerpiece of the deal lol

Jeez, it really sounds like Kawhai may end up in a Raptors uniform. I don't know how to feel about this. One can say it's an act of desperation but on the other hand this is the kind of internal shakeup that might actually work. Either way the Raps should be commended for trying to go for it.
