He's selling them very, very short if Leonard is 100% and engaged. He'd automatically become the best player in the Eastern conference if healthy

I just really struggle to see where Toronto gets much better from this, I don't think this is a huge upgrade. Kawhi is the better player, better defender, he has a better outside shot, but are we ignoring that DeRozan offensively has been nearly just as good, if not as good/better? Kawhi has hit 20ppg in two seasons, DeRozan has done it for 5 consecutive years now and 17+ in 8 straight seasons, where Kawhi is still only at 2 that are 17+... He's one of the most consistent scorers in the league, and he's arguably better with the ball in his hands and just as good if not better of a play-maker... We poke fun at DeRozan come playoff time and chalk him up as a not so good player, but even his playoff scoring is among the best in the league.. IDK I don't think he is getting his due here.

Even the trade machine (I know so accurate) says that Toronto's win percentage isn't effected by this trade.. IDK I just don't see why they made this move unless they honestly believe they can get him to stay.

PPG isn't the end all be all. DeMar shoots more, therefore scores more, but Kawhi is a much more effective player. Looking per 36 and advanced stats throughout their Kawhi best DeRozan is damn near every category.




The ESPN trade machine isn't up right now, so you can trade Kawhi for Norman Powell and it's not going to have any effect on on either teams win percentage. Heck, even when it is going I believe all it uses in it's calculation is the PER from the season before and eventually changes to the PER for to the current season after a couple of games.

Sure it won’t don’t much for their overall thoughts about loyalty, but if there’s specific teams you know are worse than others you’ll avoid them. If someone goes to Golden State for example, you go in knowing it’s a business and for the most part GS’ front office is going to be straight with you on what your role is and that they’re job is to do what they feel is best for the team. That’s the general expectation for any professional athlete and the franchise. However, there’s knowing that as an athlete and there’s knowing that if you sign with a certain team, they aren’t going to be straight with you. If you’re choosing teams and you can play for the one that’s generally going to be straight forward and honest with you or the one that you know for sure has a rat on it that’s going to look you in the eyes and tell you it’s sunshine and roses outside and then you walk out to Hoth from Star Wars. Which team you more likely to sign with?

That’s the spot Masai has put the Raptors in by lying to DeMar and shipping him out the way it went down.

I don't get how this will impact Raptors ability to sign FAs at all. Have guys been lining up to want to sign with them the past few years anyways? Have notable FAs met with Raptors? Raptors have to accept like many teams in the NBA that if you want a superstar, you gotta trade for them or draft them.

Have they even had any money to sign anyone with?

A healthy and engaged kawhi is a HUGE upgrade over DD. Don't even try to pretend it's not...especially in the playoffs.


DD is a CAREER 41% shooter with a negative vorp/OBPM/DBPM/BPM (if you care about those stats you nerd)

I'm not saying it's the end all be all, I'm not saying DeRozan is on his level or even a top 10 player for that matter. I'm just saying that basketball is played 5 on 5, not a collection of ratings like we are playing 2k. Kawhi coming to the Raptors as a guy who doesn't really alter your offensive approach, or score SIGNIFICANTLY more or more efficiently than DD, or provide more play-making, or draw double teams, this doesn't really change them much for them. Already a top 5 defensive team with DeRozan, so I don't think the impact takes a big jump there either. I just don't see it.

Trade machine seems to be working fine? I just tried another trade that said it decreased their wins by 5? And I mentioned in my first post that I don't think their projections are proven to be accurate facts or anything like that, I'm just saying that it does so happen to be on the same page using whatever algorithm it uses as what my brain tells me when I watch and evaluate this trade.

wonder if either LA team forces their way in to get kawhi at the deadline if toronto is sucking or they realize that hes not staying and they want to move him.

When LeBron is done with LaVar and gets Lonzo shipped to Canada. This just needs to happen to have LaVar in Toronto.

Keep in mind Paul George is playing with an MVP in OKC. Kawhi isn't playing alongside an MVP in Toronto.
