I think it all depends. I'm not 100% sold on the LeBron wanting to be there being true. Seems more likely this time around but he's literally be "linked" there for about 8 years now lol. So I guess we'll see how that goes.
IF LeBron does want to be there I think he would sign if one or the other of Kawhi or PG gets there first. Meaning if there is any truth to a Deng salary dump and PG signs then LeBron would sign and they aren't giving up anybody. That team is likely better with all those pieces than it would be with Kawhi anyways, and then they still have them to move for someone else if the Spurs want to play the stubborn card all the way to the deadline. Sure the Spurs could raise their price, but if the hypothetical was PG and Bron are already there the Lakers don't have to match. 20 other All-Stars in the league to throw those assets at. Could be Cousins, Dame, anyone.
My personal gut feeling feels like the whole salary dump thing might be for Cousins and PG.. But I guess time will tell. If LeBron is really headed there I don't think it takes both Kawhi AND PG, but rather one or the other. The Deng trade feels like "well the Spurs are asking too much so let's go this route" IMO.
NBA radio rumor this morning was the Lakers were trying to get a first from Denver to package into the Kawhi trade. If they were to get that from the Hawks in a Deng + multiple picks, or players, swap then they may have their Kawhi trade ready as well as space for PG and Bron after dumping Deng.
