Obviously Pelicans drafted huge and Zion probably tips the scale in the favor, but otherwise Atlanta had an amazing draft.
But I think Chicago really got a steal in Gafford. Dude jumped to the lottery in some draft boards last year, fell back to the 2nd round this year with Arkansas being awful.. but anyone who watched them could tell you his situation was awful. Bad outside shot after bad outside shot, they didn’t even have players who could get him the ball or get him easy looks.
All he did was improve though. Basically 17&9 this year (up from 12&6), 2 blocks, 66% from the field.. how many years do you have a guy up around 20&10 shooting nearly 70% from the field in the SEC go in the 2nd round? lol.. All-SEC first team and defensive team, 3rd in rebounds, 5th in blocks, 4th in ppg, career leader in SEC PER, career leader in SEC eFg% and TS%.. lots of value IMO.
Cannot shoot at all.. which hurts him in today’s league, can’t hit free throws. I don’t know if he’ll ever be a starting level guy but I think he will have a very long successful career. Long lanky player, reminds me most of Marcus Camby but he’s more athletic, he’ll have a Camby-like game but with a modern rim-runner flare to it. Very mobile too, I think he’ll beat lots of bigs up the floor and slipping screens similar to what we see from McGee, Capela, etc.
