    Re: NBA Draft 2019

Obviously Pelicans drafted huge and Zion probably tips the scale in the favor, but otherwise Atlanta had an amazing draft.

But I think Chicago really got a steal in Gafford. Dude jumped to the lottery in some draft boards last year, fell back to the 2nd round this year with Arkansas being awful.. but anyone who watched them could tell you his situation was awful. Bad outside shot after bad outside shot, they didn’t even have players who could get him the ball or get him easy looks.

All he did was improve though. Basically 17&9 this year (up from 12&6), 2 blocks, 66% from the field.. how many years do you have a guy up around 20&10 shooting nearly 70% from the field in the SEC go in the 2nd round? lol.. All-SEC first team and defensive team, 3rd in rebounds, 5th in blocks, 4th in ppg, career leader in SEC PER, career leader in SEC eFg% and TS%.. lots of value IMO.

Cannot shoot at all.. which hurts him in today’s league, can’t hit free throws. I don’t know if he’ll ever be a starting level guy but I think he will have a very long successful career. Long lanky player, reminds me most of Marcus Camby but he’s more athletic, he’ll have a Camby-like game but with a modern rim-runner flare to it. Very mobile too, I think he’ll beat lots of bigs up the floor and slipping screens similar to what we see from McGee, Capela, etc.

Now I’m really intrigued by the Pelicans.

Look at pretty much every major category and they were top 10 in all of them. Essentially a solid defense up front away from being a playoff team. Zion dominated college defensively but that doesn’t always translate well. They lose AD’s offensive output but his defense in these last couple years since he became a 25+ point scorer has definitely been an afterthought. Rookies and other young guys wanting to establish themselves will put that effort in.

So glad I live in an area that gets Pelicans, Hawks & Grizzlies games. Will be fun to see what both the Hawks & Pels do this upcoming season after their successful draft night.

The Former Lakers on this team are going to play that Warriors style offense. So it's not much change for them.

Excited for the UVA guys last night. I'm surprised Hunter went so high, but hope him the best. I expect he'll play in ATL for a couple seasons and then be moved somewhere else.

I feel bad for Jerome going to Phoenix. **** that hell.

Guy going in the second round to Kings was surprising. Hopefully he'll show out and improve his stock.

This is why Hunter went so high.
                    Spoiler

I know the flavor of the month is K-Why (because of his run the last year...Yeah it was last week lol). But he grades out very similar to him. He's defense first. His offense is coming along. Your talking about the best defender in this class. He played amazing all season long. And doesn't this look just like K-Why?

                    Spoiler

Now Ty on the other hand... Was just as Clutch as Hunter. Probably just as good defensively. His only problems in the league will probably be covering other PG's in the league. That's why I think he's more of an SG. But I guess they can try him out.

Kyle, I wasn't crazy about just because he's on the small side of 6'2. He doesn't create like the 2 above. But again all this can change. He'll fight his way into this league.

All these UAV guys always do. They play such good man to man defense.

I mean, I know why Hunter was picked. He certainly balled out in the spotlight and that whole squad played incredible defense the entire season. I'm just surprised to see him go so high. Not used to seeing that from UVA. Plus, that squad felt like Guy's team and never felt like Hunter was overly aggressive. He certainly came through when they needed him (as did Ty and Kyle) so I'm happy for his success and I'll look forward to following him and the other guys.

I think Hunter went so high for a lot of the same reasons similar players like him go so high. Everyone wants that raw defensive minded wing with the hopes that his offense gets more refined and they land the next Kawhi, Jimmy, PG, type of guy. I feel like that position has become what used to be the skilled 7 footer draft picks. People always drafted with the hopes that they had the next great big man, that's moved towards versatile, athletic, 2-way wings.

Part of the reason I think Reddish was still taken so high despite shooting poorly all season. He carries over his defense and get's more consistent with his shooting and he's in that type of mold as well.

There's always fads every few drafts. Now it is the Two-Way/3& D wing, athletic Combo forward who can guard 2-3 positions, Rim Running Centers who can block shots. They seem to get pushed up boards. Before Draymond, those undersized defensive combo guards usually fell in drafts. Yeah it use to be the 7 foot stretch centers or offensive only centers.

We didn't see as many European players as we usually see this year.

Oj, I've been saying that for years now. A players jumper can be fixed. It's been shown now for years now. "Chip" from the Spurs has shown over and over. That any NBA player can be an average or above average shooter from distance. Most player just need to build confidence in their jumper. That why people talk about shooting stats from college. I'm like throw that **** away. If you have a long player. And you put the time into him. You can get a decent player. Defense is hard to teach. Good defense that is.
