Ray Allen starting 2 guard for West all stars
I know that All star ballotting by the fans give no chance at Ray Allen getting more votes than Kobe or Tmac, but who's willing to swallow their pride and admit, Ray should start based on the season he's had. He's putting up numbers similar to Kobe and Tmac, although he's shooting a higher percentage. He don't have the assist numbers that Kobe does, but he's also not dominating the ball every play, playing IN an offense, being a part OF an offense, allowing Rashard Lewis to dominate. Ray is also shooting a higher % than Kobe, and his team is winning, most importantly. Seattle is 18-5, LA 13-10. You gotta award winning, and Ray showed that even though he doesn't dominate the ball like Kobe, that he's more a team player, and helps his team by stepping up when they need him, but not freezing out Rashard Lewis. Look at the Seattle-LA game. Ray got 29 pts, easily, on Kobe, but didn't affect his teammates geting 29 pts. Seattle won easily, and that's why I have to argue Ray Allen should start over Kobe, if the game was truly about THIS season, who's been better. Kobe's had a good season, but his selfishness for the whole season, and low shooting % for the whole season, and his inability to carry his team to the W every night, is what counts. We all gave Kobe the props when he was winning titles, and held that against Tmac, even when Orlando was barely over .500, fans of Kobe used to say Kobe was better b/c he was winning, whereas Tmac never won titles like Kobe did. What Kobe fan is man enough to use the same standard when comparing Ray Allen and Kobe This year. After all, it's not like Ray Allen has shaq on HIS team, yet he's been a HUGE part of Seattle's 18-5 season. Ray Allen is so underrated this year.Tags: None -
Re: Ray Allen starting 2 guard for West all stars
Im a huge Ray Allen fan, have been for a long time now, and I do agree, he should be starting on the Allstar team, but with the voting being a popularity contest, theres no doubt in my mind Kobe will be the starting shooting guard.
You have very strong arguments, and while I havent seen any seattle games this season, looking at the box scores and seeing some highlights, it does appear that Ray Allen is a main reason why seattle has started off so good this year. -

Re: Ray Allen starting 2 guard for West all stars
This shouldnt be about Kobe or tmac or whatever but instead pointing out that letting the fans choose the starters for the allstar game ruins its integrity. The AllStar game should change its name, because "All Star" implies that its the best guys for each conference. What the game has become is Most Popular guy from each conference. Something should be done about the voting process or they should just set up two games, one for the most popular guys and one for those playing the best. The problem is that its only a select few who don't fit into both of those categories, so it would be pointless....Comment

As for Ray-Ray, I also have been a big fan even before he came to Seattle. He is well deserving.Comment

Ray Allen has basically helped his team perform better than what Kobe has, so there is a point, but even though I dislike Kobe as a player, he is still overall a better individual player.Comment

Re: Ray Allen starting 2 guard for West all stars
I mean really...the allstar game is about the fans....showing off for the fans, Ray has had a great year but most fans would rather see Tmac or Kobe play. He will make the team but there is no way he starts and don't forget about Steve Nash.
I think you should make the case for him making All NBA, not the All star team.“It’s so senseless to me to say he shouldn’t take over like that. You give the same amount of shots to everybody else and they’re not making that many, I know it.”Comment

Re: Ray Allen starting 2 guard for West all stars
I wouldnt care if it was Nash and Ray or Mac and Kobe. I am going to enjoy it anyhow. Those guys deserve to be there and if they go then that is what is on the history books. Starting almost means nothing at all now. Look at VC. That should never be an actual accomplishment on his record. Getting there vs starting there... doesnt matter much nowadays. As long as they play.Comment
