Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
Seems like PHI got desperate. I don't think this move puts them ahead of Boston or Toronto, especially with reduced depth and shooting, but they felt they had to make a move. Also, re-upping Butler next summer at age 30 for 5/$190m is not something I'd be thrilled about my team doing. This could really implode and doom Philly for most of Embiid's prime but at the same time you don't want to waste Embiid's best years.I’m kinda on the fence with this trade. For the Sixers they needed a guy like Jimmy who can score in the half court late in games because literally all they have is Embiid. But they also got worse losing shooters and depth when they lost Bells and Ilyasova, and now after this they may have hurt their depth and shooting even more.
For Minnesota they get a good return, Covington is a good type of player to replace Jimmy honestly. And they likely gain two starters. But is this better than some of the other rumors? The 4 first round picks? Just the trade value and flexibility you have years moving forward with 4 firsts would be massive.
I'm not in love with Saric or RoCo. They're okay pieces but not what you expect in return for Butler given the rumored offers we've heard about the last few months. If I'm a MIN fan I'm disappointed I didn't get a 1st or Fultz in this deal. This deal all but guarantees MIN is a treadmill team for a while.Last edited by ehh; 11-10-2018, 01:58 PM."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
Brett is gonna have shake up his rotation by possibly inserting Jonah (in a limited capacity), starting either or both McConnell/Reddick and pray Wilson Chandler can stay healthy.
Fultz quarterbacking the bench is probably better for his development instead of being forced to play off ball (as a starter). Not sure what they' can do about finding more perimeter shooting, though.

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
I like the deal for both sides. On paper, it seems like Philly clearly won the deal. A top two-way player for 2 role players and basically a 9th/10 grader(2022 2nd round).
But deal benefits both sides. Wolves shouldn't have gone into the season with Butler and got less "value" by doing so. They will be able to focus offense around KAT and Wiggins with RoCo and Saric as spot shooters. Philly needed a 2nd scorer. Ben Simmons scoring has taken a dive this year. Their big 3 will be deadly since it basically has 3 Two-Way players(When Ben is hot).
I do question lineups for Philly. Brown likes 2 big lineups. While Saric wasn't having a good year to say the least, but it does leave a hole. I don't want Amir or Muscala as starter. But I do see Bolden playing more minutes. As a Philly fan, I want Fultz to succeed. But I think it is best to cut their losses and move him for another shooter especially if they resign Butler. Fultz already didn't fit alongside Simmons offensively. Now with Butler, he doesn't fit at all. For them to win now they need to go with Simmons-Reddick-Butler-?-Embiid. They just need another spacer.Comment

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
Theoretically Butler really helps out the Sixers but they really hurt themselves depth wise which will probably necessitate another trade later. I actually think Philly got way too overhyped after their strong finish last year. Perhaps things will get better now with Butler but they're still the 4th best team in the East behind Toronto, Milwaukee and Boston.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Also Saric has been stinking it up lately. Losing Robert sucks. But there was no way he could of got minutes with Butler on the team.
Edit: also to add. Robert wasn't lights out shooting either. Like he was last year.

I’m thinking they will likely just start JJ and move Ben to the 4. But I guess we’ll see.

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
Not sure that it would help Fultz's development being the 4th ball handler/option behind three ball dominant guys, but we'll see.

Re: 2018-19 Transaction Thread
If Fultz hits his stride and starts making serious progress, then he'll have to move back to the PF position. PG would be ideal for match up purposes, but I think PF is Ben's long term spot based on personnel and need.
